Rentals, accounts, bills and receipts for Hastingleigh Court Lodge Farm, leased by Sarah Ashdown from the Governors of St. Thomas'  Hospital, London, which was managed for her by her son-in-law, Henry Streatfeild, through an agent, John Jenkins

MANORIAL

In the following catalogue the names of the lord and the bailiff are noted for each court and any references to families such as Streatfeild, Seyliard, Burgh, Willoughby, Medhurst, Ashdown and others who appear frequently in the documents in the collection. Also noted are the names of such well known and important families as Boleyn, Cobham and Clinton. References to properties for which there are also title deeds are included.
The entries for transfers of properties in the rolls are often several years after the date of the conveyances connected with the same transfers to be found in the bundles of title deeds. Any entries of an unusual nature are noted but routine business is not mentioned.

Consists of copies made in 1733 of wills of the Piggott family, 1638-88, and the marriage settlement of Henry Piggott and Mary Ashdown, 1708, the original settlement and the conveyance of 1713 to Henry Streatfeild being with the deeds of Skinners, see U908/T147. The rest of the property bought in 1713 reverted to the Piggott family and was not re-purchased by the Streatfeild family until 1783 (For gavelkind partition, 1602, of the property of Henry Piggott allotting Withers to his eldest son, William, see  U908/T157)
