OTHER NOTES: From data file by Bill & Reba Pollard, 12692 Stage Coach Dr., Victorville, CA, 92392, (619) 241-4807. Imported 6 Mar 1995. "We believe he moved to Amherst County, VAin 1782, aboutthe time he married Leaner Banks, they had their first four children, Abner, Granville, Staunton, and John in Amherst County, VA, then in about 1790 they moved to Lincoln Cty, KY (this section of Lincoln Cty became Garrard Cty in 1796) where they had their next eight children, Sarah, Leanner, Malinda, Pamelia, Nancy, Absalom Jr., Reuben and James. (not sure they were born in KY-dgr) The last record of his presence in Virginia was in the first census of the United States dated 1790. (Kentucky was a county of the state of Virginia until 1792.)
The first record of his presence in Kentucky was in the Early Kentucky Householders and Landholders book 1787-1811 showing the following entry: Pollard, Absolom 07 Aug 89, book-pg 2.11 TM 1. The listings skipped him in 1790, then picked him up again in 1791 and 92, skipped again in 1793 then picked him up again from 1794 through 1796 (the last four listings show the property being 45 acres on the Sugar Creek watershed, this the location of the Pollard family cemetery. The next documentation of his presence in Kentucky was his service as a Captain in the 1st Division, 2nd Brigade, 6th Regiment of the Kentucky Cornstalk Militia on Aug 9, 1792, and also on the tax list of Lincoln County on 27 Apr 1794 in Book 3, pg 17, as having 45 acres on the Sugar Creek watershed.
NOTE: This part of Lincoln County became Garrard County in1796. It should also be noted that a gap exists in the birth of children between John B. born 27 Dec 1788, and Sarah born 7 Jan 1793, its my conclusion that he went to Kentucky in 1789 with his brother James (also listed in book-pg 2.11) to claim the land they received as veterans of the Revolutionary War,leaving their families behind until their homesteads were carved out, this would explain the listing on the tax rolls of Virginia in 1790. He is believed to be buried in the Pollard Family Cemetery, located in a cow pasture on the Les Huffman farm on US 27, opposite and somewhat south of the mouth of Boones Creek Road at Latitude 37, 39', 35", near Lancaster, Garrard Co., KY. This is further attested to by the affidavit of Lewis V. Phillips in January 1855 to wit: They are both buried at the old homestead in Garrard Cty, KY and I have frequently seen their graves. On the tombstone of the said Absolom Pollard is inscribed "Absolom Pollard died August 30th 1835 aged 80 years". The condition of this cemetery, last visited by mein 1992, has deteriorated to the point that within a few years all traces of its existence will have dissappeared.."
Notes for LEANNA (LEANER) BANKS:
Merged General Note: Leaner is the way her name is spelled in her husbands will and on her Certificate of Pension issued the 31st day of July 1843 under the act of March 3, 1843 and recorded in book A, Vol 1, Page 172. She was about 74 years of age at that time. The name has also been spelled Leanna. She had a sister named Sally Pendleton who was about 70 years of age in 1839, when she sent a letter to the pension board stating that they had lived together, or as neighbors since they were born.
Sally submitted another affidavit for pension in January 1855, she stated that she was 93 years of age. She is believed to be buried in the Pollard Family Cemetery. (See note in Absolem Pollard's file). Her Grandson James M. Pollard gave her date of death as 8 January 1845, in an affidavit for pension he signed in January 1855. He stated further that Leanna and Absolem were married by a minister of the Gospel named Mr Holmes. (Document
