Scott entered the Army at the age of 19 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Received basic training at Fort Campbell then advanced infantry training at Fort Polk LO. , Arriving in the Republic of South Vietnam on July 31, 1971. His unit received a Congressional Unit Citation and a Presidential Citation as well as the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.
He earned two Air medals and the Combat Infantryman's badge.
