Funeral services for Mrs. Grace (Silverthorn) TAGESON, 56, wife of Andrew Tageson, were held Monday in the First Methodist Church. Rev. Harlow Hoyt, pastor of the Free Methodist Church officiated. Burial was in Rock Falls Cemetery. Mrs. Tageson, died Saturday in Harbor Beach Hospital after an illness of several weeks. She was born Feb. 1, 1900 in Au Sable, Mich., daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Silverthorn. She came when a child to Harbor Beach with her parents. She and Andrew Tageson were married in August, 1917. Surviving are her husband, five sons, William, Bad Axe, and Andrew, Robert, Jack and Wallace, all of Harbor Beach; a daughter, Mrs. Bruce Mitchell, Evart, Mich.; six grandchildren, and a brother, George Silverthorn, Harbor Beach.

Danielle Lois Marie (Engelhart) TAUSCH--Vassar--Passed away into the arms of our Lord Saturday, May 26, 2001 while at the U of M Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was 11 years old. Danielle was the daughter of Shawn Williams and Frederick (Fred) Engelhart, Jr. and was born August 16, 1989 in Saginaw, and had been a Vassar resident all of her life. Danielle was a sixth grader at Central Elementary School in Vassar. Danielle loved school. She loved music, singing and dancing, and having fun with her friends and family. She also loved to tease. Though she will be missed she's now safe in the arms of God and at peace. Danielle leaves to cherish her wonderful memories her family: mother and stepfather, Shawn and Mark Williams, father and stepmother, Fred and Rhonda Engelhart, Jr., all of Vassar; brother and sister, Cole and Casey; stepbrothers, Robert and Andrew; stepsisters, Amanda and Riley; grandparents, Janet Seney, and Frederick and Carol Engelhart, Sr., all of Vassar; great-grandparents, Mrs. Jean Summerfield, and Glen Seney; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Funeral service for Danielle was held Wednesday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at the Nazarene Church in Vassar, with burial in the Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Pastor Dave Wermuth officiated the service. Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar was in charge of arrangements.

Carmen Louise (Spencer) TAYLOR--Tampa, Florida--Our beloved daughter, mother, sister and friend, at the age of 39, was welcomed into heaven on June 4, 2001. She departed this world from the H. Lee Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. She was a military veteran. Carmen was born in Cass City May 16, 1962. She was a 1980 Caro High School graduate. After graduation she moved to Charleston, South Carolina where she co-managed an apartment complex and laundromat. When she joined the U.S. Air Force in her late 20's, she became well traveled. Carmen was a military police officer at bases in Germany and Colorado until 1997. She attended Colorado Technical University and graduated with a degree in elementary education. Carmen was most recently enjoying employment as a research librarian at the Lee County Library in Cape Coral, Florida. She is survived by her daughters, Billie Jo Taylor, 19, and Levi Christian Taylor, seven, of Cape Coral, Florida; her parents, Richard and Phoebe Spencer of Caro; siblings, Ira (Laura) Ewald of Millington, Rose (David) Martin of Cass City; Alberta (Donald) Richardson of Atlanta, Richard (Melina) Spencer ll of Cape Coral, Florida; grandfather, Clarence Spencer, Sr. of Caro; many nieces and nephews. Carmen is greatly missed by all who knew her. A memorial service was held at the Cape Coral United Methodist Church on June 11 and another for her family and friends in Michigan on the return of her parents.

Dennis G.TerBUSH--Vassar--Died Friday, July 27, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital of Saginaw. He was 49. Dennis was born March 14, 1952 in Flint. He had resided in the Mayville, Caro and Vassar areas. Dennis attended Mayville High School. He loved to sing, play the guitar and hunt. Dennis is survived by his fiance, Mary Willson of Vassar; six children, Judy (David) Bates of Caro, Mary (Chad) Zimmerman of Caro, Marshall (Sharon) TerBush of Caro, Candy (Victor) Freeman of Akron, Travis TerBush of Caro, and Justin TerBush at home; two brothers, Terry TerBush of Vassar and Martin (Tina) TerBush of Fostoria; his mother, Gladys TerBush of Mayville; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy A. TerBush; and a brother, Thomas TerBush. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30 at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville with Pastor John Ball officiating. Interment will be in Rich Township Cemetery. Family will receive visitors at the Avram Funeral Home Sunday from 1-9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorials may be made to the Family Fund.

Velma Lou THAYER--Lewiston, formerly of Gilford--Died Friday morning, June 8, 2001 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 69. She was born June 30, 1931, daughter of the late Louden and Gladys (Rosencrants) Schlosser. Velma married David D. Thayer on September 18, 1948 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Gilford. He predeceased her on Feb. 17, 2000. Velma was a member of the Gilford United Methodist Church and the Reese American Legion Post #139 Auxiliary. She had enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and spending time with her family. Surviving are her four children and their spouses, Tim and Kathy Thayer of Olympia, Wash., Steve and Rosanna Thayer of Lewiston, Joyce and Wes Andrus of Reese, Kathleen Thayer of San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers and their spouses, Lyle and Ann Schlosser of Millington, Leo and Madeline Schlosser of Ohio; three sisters and their spouses, Genava and Gary Leix of Mayville, Jeanette and Wayne Petzold of Millington, Thelma Reed of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews. Velma was predeceased by four brothers, Lewis, Lawrence and William Schlosser, Ivan Rosencrants; and one sister, Annette Anclard. Funeral service took place at 4 p.m. Monday, June 11 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel of Reese. Pastor Fred Heath of Gilford United Methodist Church officiated with burial in Gilford Township Cemetery.

Vernita TIBBITS--Frankenmuth, formerly Flint--Passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2000 at the Lutheran Home, Frankenmuth. She was 93. A memorial service will be held at Caro United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 27 at 3 p.m. with Rev. Calvin Blue officiating. Burial has taken place in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home of Caro. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth, Caro United Methodist Church, or the Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. Arrangements were made by the Collon Funeral Home of Caro.

Mary Ann THOMPSON--Bradenton, Florida and Fairgrove--Died Friday, April 20, 2001 at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida. She was 61. She was born June 24, 1939 in Gilford Twp., the daughter of Clifton and Dorothy (McAlpine) Murday. She and Gerald W. Thompson were united in marriage February 14, 1971. Surviving are husband, Gerald; daughter, Carol Thompson of Easton, Pa.; sister, Shirley and husband, Dale Schutt of Lake City, Fla.; niece, Susan and husband, Gerald Socier of Ocala, Fla.; several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Albert Stank August 2, 1982. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26 at Fairgrove Presbyterian Church with Pastor Rich Lawther officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home Clark Chapel in Fairgrove Wednesday 4-9 p.m. and at the First Presbyterian Church Thursday from 10-11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Fairgrove Library. Funeral service was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Friday, September 22 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Yaroch officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Wilmot. Loraine TOMASZEWSKI--Caro--Passed away on Friday, September 29, 2000 at Covenant-Cooper in Saginaw. She was 77. She was born on September 14, 1923 at Black River and came to Caro as a teenager. The former Loraine Ranger married Peter Tomaszewski on March 9, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1968. She was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing as well as playing cards. She was a member of the Tuscola County Polish American Club. She is survived by one son, one daughter and their spouses, Larry, Sr. and Pat Tomaszewski of Caro, Joann and Neil Jackson of Caro; six grandchildren, Larry Tomaszewski, Jr., Brian Tomaszewski, Kimberly Hodges, Kristopher Hodges, Cameron Jackson, Blake Jackson, all of Caro; two brothers, four sisters and spouses, Betty and Arnold McKinnon of Spruce, Louise LaFave of Davison, Norma Oleniacz of Caro, Jerry LaFave of Alpena, Lawrence LaFlave of Alpena, Vivian and Ralph Ludwig of Midland; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Kay and Lynn Hodges; three sisters and three brothers. Funeral service will be held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Monday, October 2 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ronald C. Wigand officiating. Burial will be in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Sunday, October 1 from 4-9 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

Verna M. TRISCH--Caro--Passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2000 at her residence. She was 77. She was born on June 9, 1923, at Bay City. The former Verna Buerkel married Jack Trisch on December 3, 1944, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Frankenlust Township, Bay County. Since the time of her marriage, she had been a resident of Fairgrove Township. In addition to homemaking, she was a partner with her husband in the operation of Victor Drag Company. She was a loving mother and wife, as well as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and its Altar Guild. She is survived by her husband, Jack Trisch; one daughter, one son and spouses, Carol and Gerald Mathewson of Caro, Victor and Jean Trisch of Caro; seven grandchildren, Tamara and Randy Reis of Reese, William Ashbreck of Rochester, John Ashbreck of Caro, Matthew and Lori Trisch of Owosso, Kristin Trisch of Rochester, Minnesota, Shane Trisch of Akron, Sandy Marker of Fairgrove; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Leeah Grace Reis of Reese; sister-in-law, Marion Buerkel of Saginaw; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Gary Trisch; one son-in-law, Garry Ashbreck; five brothers, George, John, Fred, Clarence and Herman Buerkel; and four sisters, Katherine Schurter, Barbara Hahn, Lorina Behmlander and Mary Long. Funeral service was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Saturday, September 30 at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Hollender officiating. Burial was in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements were made by the Colon Funeral Home in Caro.

Mrs. Helen M. VAN ERP, 88, of Sheridan died Wednesday, July 12, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home. She was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Traverse Lake, S.D., the daughter of the late George and Johanna (Ruys) Boogaard. She married Fritz Van Erp on May 20, 1930, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Butler, Minn. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1984. She was a graduate of Grant School in Roberts County, S.D. She lived in Butler for a few years before moving to the Bad Axe area in 1937. She was a parishioner of St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Sheridan since 1937, a member and former officer of the Christian Mothers, a former member of the East Sheridan Extension Group, former member of the Sweeney School Board, former teacher of CCD classes of religious education at St. Columbkille's for many years. She retired from farming with her husband in 1968. She enjoyed flower gardening, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. She is survived by four sons, Joseph and his wife, Carol, of Bad Axe, Albert of Henrietta, N.Y., Robert and his wife, Susan, of Bad Axe, and William and his wife, Kathleen, of Canton; six daughters, Marcella Campbell of Owosso, Mary Kubacki and her husband, Albert, of Ubly, Dorothy Schmidt and her husband, Robert, of Cass City, Florence Briolat and her husband, Norman, of Carol Stream, Ill., Evelyn Schadd and her husband, Earl, of Filion; 40 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Van Erp of Minnesota; *five brothers, Albert Boogaard, John Boogaard and his wife, Rosella, Henry Boogaard and his wife, Evelyn, and Clarence Boogaard, all of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Dennis Schadd; in-laws, William Campbell and Ruth Van Erp, one brother, Cornelius Boogaard and one sister, Wilma Harrison. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, 2000, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Sheridan. The Rev. T. J. Fleming, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish wake service will take place at 8 p.m. Friday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly. Visitation will be from 1 to 9:30 p.m. Friday and 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Theodore Ray VANHORN--Deford--Died Thursday, September 5, 2000 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. He was 80. He was born March 13, 1920 in Kingston Township to John E. (J.E.) and Lillian M. (Silvernail) VanHorn. He married Gladys L. Ballhoff August 19, 1944 in Elk Township, Sanilac County. Mr. VanHorn was a farmer for many years, an industrial engineer, and a welder. At one time he worked for American Hoist and Derrick. He also was the small business owner of Kingston Septic Tank Company. Theodore helped build and was a life member of Caro Free Methodist Church. He attended Deford Community Church. He enjoyed fishing and reading. He and Gladys traveled throughout the United States including: Washington, Arizona, Texas, Florida and Washington D.C. He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Theodore is survived by his wife, Gladys; children, Ray L. (Patti) VanHorn of Tawas City, Edward J. (Penolyn) VanHorn of Lima, OH, Dean E. (Karen) VanHorn of Spring Arbor, Kathryn L. (Dave) Wice of Caro, Paul (Debbie) VanHorn of Deford; grandchildren, Eric (Rebecca) VanHorn, Kevin D. (Kathy) VanHorn, Laura D. Sanford, Angela J. Wice, Tyler Wice, Candice (George) Jentges, George VanHorn, Brent R. VanHorn, Kyle VanHorn, Aaron VanHorn; great-grandchildren, Alisha Jentges, Abigail Jentges; brothers and sisters, C. Alvin (Juanita) VanHorn of Fenton, Francis VanHorn of Florida, Arlene Peterson of Harbor Beach, Naomi (Bob) Barber of Roscommon, Geraldine (Howard) Conely of Mayville; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Trisch and Emma Jane Schiele. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Friday, September 8 at Deford Community Church, Deford with Rev. David Mercer officiating. Interment was in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston. Pallbearers for Mr. VanHorn were Eric VanHorn, Kevin VanHorn, Ray VanHorn, Dean VanHorn, Edward VanHorn, Paul VanHorn, and David Wice. Memorials may be made to Gideons Bible Society or the Deford Community Church. Kranz Funeral Home of Kingston was in charge of arrangements.

Linda Rose VIRDEN--Kingston--Died Sunday, August 13, 2000 in Marlette Community Hospital, Marlette, after a long illness. She was 44. She was born August 21, 1955 in Detroit to Walter and Shirley (Liles) Martin. She married Lanny C. Virden July 16, 1988 in Mt. Clemens. Linda loved to fish. She was a member of the Detroit chapter of the Michigan Steelheaders. She helped her husband on the Outdoorsman Show. Linda also loved cats. Linda is survived by her husband, Lanny; mother, Shirley (Jack) Hipple of South Lyon; stepmother, Barbara Martin of Clinton Township; sister, Sue (James) Rokitski of Kingston; brothers, Ron (Barbara) Martin of Canton, Gary (Barbara) Martin of Algonac; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Martin. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 15 at Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston. Memorials may be made to Children's Hospital, Detroit Cardiology Unit.

Raymond VODDEN--Vassar--Passed away Sunday, October 8, 2000 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Saginaw. He was 86. Raymond was born January 2, 1914 in Detroit and was the son of Evelyn Vodden. He lived most of his life in Vassar. On October 10, 1954 he married Esther Goodman. She preceded him in death in September of 1987. Raymond was a member of Vassar Nazarene Church for 71 years. With his wife he owned and operated the "Little Record Shop" a music store in downtown Vassar and also Reichle's Clothing Store. Raymond was also employed as a janitor for various businesses. He worked for a short time at Eaton Foundry (Grede's) in Vassar. He loved to talk on his CB and his handle was "Sneakey Pete". Raymond is survived by many cousins, extended family, and friends. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 11 at Vassar Nazarene Church with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery in Vassar. Rev. Dave Wermuth will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday where he will lie in state from noon until time of service. Memorials may be made to Vassar Nazarene Church. Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar was in charge of arrangements.
