John JACQUES--Caro--Passed away on Monday, June 19, 2000, at Caro Community Hospital. He was 78. He was born on October 1, 1921, to John and Alice (Cottrell) Jacques in Almer Township. John married the former Bernadine Daniels on March 14, 1942, in Caro. He was not only a skilled mechanic for many years, but most people who knew him will remember him for his love of woodworking and building horse drawn wagons and stagecoaches which he exhibited in many local parades. John not only enjoyed building and displaying the wagons and coaches, but also learning the history behind the stagecoach as well as the history of Caro. He served as 4-H leader for several years, teaching youth how to properly handle and ride horses. John's door was always open, and he was forever willing and anxious to share his knowledge with others. He was a member of the Catholic faith. In addition to his wife, Bernadine, he was the proud father of 10 children, who still survive him, Carl and Carol Jacques of Caro, Gary and Jennifer Jacques of Caro, Harold and Margaret Jacques of Snover, Sandy and Keith Lippowiths of Caro, Richard and Faye Jacques of Hadley, Karen and Jerry Snider of Caro, Marlene and Earl Gohs of Caro, Yvonne and Dr. Afonso Ferreira of Caro, Joe Jacques of Mayville, Vicki and Keith Johnson of Caro. He was blessed with 25 surviving grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. His sisters, Pauline LaPratt of Caro, Madeline and Mike Marker of Caro, Mildred Leveque of Saginaw, Ruth Moeller of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Otto and Joanne Jacques of Oscoda; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jerome, Frances and Ted Jacques; one grandson, Carl Jacques, Jr.; and a sister, Mabel Garner. Funeral service will be held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Thursday, June 22 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kenneth Yaroch of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home of Caro Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Jacques Family Discretionary Fund.

Jeanette JOHNSON--Perry, formerly Okemos--Passed away Saturday, February 17, 2001 at the Olive Branch Foster Care Home in Perry. She was 92. Jeanette was born on June 24, 1908 in Kalamazoo and was the daughter of Samuel L. and Jessie Johnson. Before retiring, Jeanette was a librarian for the Michigan State Library in Lansing for several years. She was active in Okemos Historical Society and a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Okemos. Jeanette leaves to cherish her memory, her family: nieces and their spouses, Marilyn and Henry Quick of Vassar, Kathryn and Richard Lewandowski of Seminole, FL; four great-nieces and spouses, Janice and Don Paquette of Vassar, Jeanette and Charles Cushman of Midland, Jill and Jim Miller of Kingston, Joy and Randy Perry of Cass City; grand-nephews, Jeffrey Fisher of Seminole, FL and Michael Fisher of Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Willard Newton. At her request cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar with committal following at the Tuscola Twp. Cemetery. Pastor Rick Sheppard will officiate.

Robert W. JOHNSON--Caro Mobile Estates--Passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at his residence. He was 62. He was born January 1, 1938 in Kingston, and lived most of his life in Tuscola County. He was a tree trimmer by trade, and most recently for N.G. Gilbert. Bob was a member of I.B.E.W. Local #17. He was a member and past president of the Caro Eagles Aerie #3587 and the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #1049. Bob was a Lutheran by birth. He is survived by two children, Dawn Periso of Marlette and Keith and Vicki Johnson of Marlette; three grandchildren, Tara, Daryl and Derek Periso; his father, Frank Johnson, Sr. of Caro; two sisters, and one brother, Delores and Jim Cybulski of Caro, Mary Jane Phillips of Caro, Frank Jr. and Betty Johnson of Caro; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Johnson; an infant son, Robert Wayne Johnson, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Phillips. Funeral service was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Thursday, May 25 at 11 a.m. with Pastor David Hollender of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Wahjamega Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Thomas William "Bill" JOHNSTON--Cass City--Died Saturday, September 9, 2000 in VA Medical Center, Saginaw. He was 71. He was born January 19, 1929 in Gagetown to Harold and Theresa (McCarthy) Johnston. He married Shirley Ann Damm October 13, 1950 in Cass City. She died November 14, 1986. Bill owned and operated Bill's Barber Shop in Cass City for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church. He was a charter member of the Cass City Lions Club and also had belonged to Cass City Rotary and Cass City-Gagetown Knights of Columbus. Bill served in the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., during the Korean War. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Bill is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Bob) Griffith of Encino, CA, Kathy (Tony) Arcurio of Newport Beach, CA; brother, Harold (Bette) Johnson* of Alma; sisters, Margaret Generous and Marion Carroll of Gagetown; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Madelyn Pitcher; brothers-in-law Alger Generous and Richard Carroll. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, September 11 at St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with Rev. Paul Bala officiating. Interment was in St. Agatha Cemetery, Gagetown. Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center #135, Saginaw. Arrangements were by Kranz Funeral Home of Cass City.

Freda R. KASTRABA--Gagetown--Passed away Friday morning, June 2, 2000 at Bay Medical Center. She was 76. She was born in Gagetown on April 7, 1924 the daughter of Carl and Mary Reher Stark. On May 10, 1947 she married George Kastraba. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Kastraba was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Gagetown. Surviving are a son, Gary G. (Sheila) Kastraba of Southgate, MI.; daughters, Nancy Howey of Gagetown, Susan (Brian) Bursick of Sebewaing and Diane (Joseph) Howey of Gagetown; 20 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; her brothers, Herbert Stark of Pigeon, William (Betty) Stark of St. Clair Shores, Arthur (Jean) Stark of Hastings, NE; sisters, Alma Boitos of Cass City, Martha (Paul) Schenk of Filion. Lillian Irion of Frakenmuth. Betty Stark of Sebewaing. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Edward Stark. Funeral service was from the Church of the Nazarene, Gagetown at 11 a.m. Monday, June 5 with Rev. Donald Ault officiating. Interment was in St. Peter Cemetery, Bach. Memorials may be made to Thumb Area Dialysis. Gagetown Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth William KNIBBE--Attica--Kenneth William Knibbe, 31, of Attica, died May 28, 2000. He was born April 12, 1969, in Lapeer. He married Lorri Ann Bozek in Lapeer on Dec. 13, 1991. He lived almost all of his life in the Attica area. He had been employed by L&L Products as a shredder machine operator for three years and worked at Hyponex in Imlay City for eight years as a heavy equipment operator. He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and golf. He is survived by his wife, Lorri of Imlay City; children, Lana Ann and Nathan William, at home; parents, Hank and Peggy of Attica; parents-in-law, Claude and Janice Barnhardt of Utica; brothers, Kelly of Dryden and Kevin of Attica; grandparents, Carrie Harley, Henrietta and Zigmunt Biernacki, and Cathleen Barnhardt. Funeral services were Friday (June 2, 2000) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Richard Lop officiated. Burial was in Arcadia Township Cemetery, Lum.

Irene D. Jacoby KRAMER--Caro--Went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 24, 2000 at Saint Mary's Hospital in Saginaw. She was 64. She was born on September 27, 1935, in Akron Township, and was a lifelong Tuscola County resident. She graduated from Akron High School, and on September 4, 1954, the former Irene Jacoby married Marvin Kramer at the Moravian Church in Unionville. She was employed for a time at the ASCS Office in Caro, then for Dr. Paul Golsch, and until her retirement, as office manager at Star Vision. Irene loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Kramer; two daughters and spouses, Brenda and Scott Toyzan of Bay City and Lori and Gary Libka of Mayville; five grandchildren, Joel and Evan Toyzan and Kristen, John and Natalie Libka; two brothers, one sister and spouses, Gerald and Joan Jacoby of Caro, Richard and Carol Jacoby of Akron, Noreen and Ronald Southgate of Saginaw; aunts, uncles, cousins; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Houthoofed. Funeral will be held at Caro United Methodist Church on Monday, August 28 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duane Miller officiating. Burial will be in Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Sunday from 3-9 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.

Marie KRUEGER, 90, of Sun City Center, Fla. died July 5, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla. She was born June 29, 1910, in Ottoville, Ohio. She and her husband were former owners and operators of Anrod Screen Cylinder Corporation in Cass City. She came to Sun City Center from Cass City in 1970. She is survived by a daughter, Ann (Jack) McDaniel of Bay City; a son, Rodney (Colleen) Krueger of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Sun City Center, Fla. Arrangements were made by Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Mansion Chapel, E. Ellenton, Fla.

Dora Mae KUZMA--Vassar--Passed away Friday, September 1, 2000 at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. She was 71. Dora was born June 7, 1929 in Detroit and was the daughter of Arthur and Margaret Wilson. On June 8, 1946 she married John Kuzma. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1997. Dora lived in the Vassar area most of her life. She graduated from Caro High School. She had been employed at Means Industries in Vassar, retiring in 1996 after 34 years. Dora loved to make her own jewelry. Dora leaves to cherish her memory her family, five children and their spouses, Sandra Gawne, Suzanne and Melvin Stange, Richard Kuzma, John and Cheryl Kuzma, all of Vassar, Jerry and Chris Kuzma, of Virginia; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, John, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Brown. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 6 at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar with burial in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Pastor Cyril Haines officiated. Memorials may be made to the Vassar Area Ambulance Service.
