Ida Mae CAMPBELL--Caro--Passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital. She was 80. She was born on January 3, 1920, in Indiana to Charles and Kate (Murdock) James. She graduated from high school while in Indiana. She married Douglas Allan Thomson and he preceded her in death on December 23, 1972. She then married Harold "Hap" Campbell on May 20, 1978. Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling and riding mortorcycles. She is survived by her husband, Harold; nine children and their spouses, Nancy and Don Young of Madison Heights, Barbara and Ron Barnes of Gladwin, Marge and Chuck Limberger of Sterling Heights, Douglas and Carol Thomson of Madison Heights, Richard and Sue Thomson of Lapeer, Judy and Larry Milner of Columbiaville, Linda and Ken Hodgson of Madison Heights, Cathy and John Paterson of Hazel Park, Tom and Linda Thomson of Madison Heights; three stepsons and their spouses, William and Ann Campbell, of Caro, Richard and Kay Campbell of Lake Orion, Rex and Linda Campbell of Caro; 24 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Lou Moen. In keeping with Mrs. Campbell's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements were handled by the Collon Funeral Home in Caro.

Thomas V. CAMPBELL--Vassar--Died Sunday, May 21, 2000 at his home. He was 66. Mr. Campbell was born December 6, 1933 in Detroit, the son of Elmer and Charlotte (Vining) Campbell. He and Louanne Lewis were united in marriage August 28, 1957. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Vassar American Legion Post. Mr. Campbell retired from A&P grocery store in Clio as produce manager after 40 years of service. He enjoyed bow hunting and was a sports advocate. Surviving are his wife, Louanne; two sons, Jeff and wife Pam Campbell of Seattle, WA and Craig Campbell of Lake Tahoe, NV; daughter, Holly and husband Allan Williams of Vassar; four grandchildren, Chelsea Williams, Casey Williams, Jason Campbell and Kyle Campbell; two brothers, Clayton Campbell of Flint and Tim Campbell of Bay City; two stepbrothers, Herbert Heidger of Vassar and Richard Heidger of Saginaw; three brother-in-laws, Jerry Vincent of Spring Lake, Jack and wife Mildred Lewis of Adrian and George and wife Nina Lewis of Reno, NV; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Ann Vincent; stepsister, Joyce Hood; and stepmother, Lillian Gerber. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25 at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar with Rev. John Becker officiating. Burial is in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Family will be present to receive friends 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Memorials may be made to the Vassar Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the American Diabetes Association. Friends may share a memory with the family at the funeral home.

Arlene CHAMPAGNE--Caro--Died Friday, June 23, 2000 in Farmington Hills. She was born July 24, 1937 in Sandusky. She is survived by her former husband, Elmer Champagne of Caro; daughter, Debra Christy and husband Brad; grandchildren, Heather Lynn Christy, 12, and Brandon Thomas Christy, 14, of West Bloomfield; son David Champagne, 32 of Caro. A small memorial service is being planned Monday June 26 at 2 p.m. at Kirk in the Hill, Bloomfield Hills.

Ernest Max CHILDS--formerly of Caro--Passed away at Tendercare Nursing Facility on June 18, 2000. He was 75. Ernest was born on November 17, 1924. Surviving are two nephews, Terry Rumble of Desbrats, Canada and Tim Rumble of Marysville, MI; one niece, Barbara Green of East Tawas; brother-in-law, Lesley Rumble of Akron. Ernest was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Ila Rumble. Funeral service was at 11 a.m., June 21 from the Briggs-Trenerry Funeral Chapel in Akron, with Rev. Bill Edsel officiating. Burial was in the Wisner Cemetery.

Lola E. CHIPPI--Cass City--died Monday, July 24, 2000 in her home. She was 84. She was born February 25, 1916 in Sanilac County to George and Ethel (Meredith) Ferguson. She married Frank L. Chippi. He died December 28, 1987. Lola was a Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star of Decker. She was active in Hills & Dales General Hospital Auxiliary, Cass City VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Senior Citizens of Cass City. She was a member of Deford United Methodist Church. Lola enjoyed playing cards, needlework, bowling, baking and spending time with her family. Lola is survived by two sons, Duane (Janice) Chippi of Cass City and Bradley (Susie) Chippi of Cass City; two daughters, Darlene (Don) Collins of Sam Rayburn, Texas and Sherry (Greg) Michels of Ortonville; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her brother, Larry (Marilyn) Ferguson of Bad Axe; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Frank G. Chippi; brothers, Doyle, Ken and Cliff Ferguson. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 27 at Kranz Funeral Home of Cass City with Rev. Margaret Passenger of Deford United Methodist Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Eastern Star services will take place Wednesday, July 26 at 7 p.m. Visitation is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Friends for Life Hospice, Eastern Star or the American Cancer Society.

Janet Marie CHURCH--Gagetown--Passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 2, 2001 at her residence. She was 57. She was born in Cass City on March 1, 1944, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Keel) Creason. On October 21, 1972 she married Neuman Church in Owosso. Mrs. Church was a life member of V.F.W. Auxiliary, Cass City Post #3644, and had been a member of the Friendship Club of Owosso and the Mid-Thumb Crickets Chapter #95 of the Good Sams Club. Surviving along with her husband, Neuman, are her sons, Brian and Robert Mosher, both of Cass City and Lyle (Rose) Church of Owendale; and daughter, Lori Church of Pigeon; granddaughter, Jasmine M. Church; her brothers, Gerry (Harriet) Creason of Deford and William (Jean) Creason of Virginia; and sisters, Nancy (David) Urban of Cass City, and Becky (Joseph) Halasz of Gagetown; several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Creason. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 5 at the Gagetown Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Larry Turner officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Township Cemetery.

Thomas CLEGG-Cass City, formerly East Pointe--Died Monday morning, August 21, 2000 at Genesys Hospice Center in Goodrich. He was 80. He was born April 24, 1920 in Springfield, MA to James and Alice (Hooton) Clegg. He married Irene Morowski February 18, 1944 in Roseville. Thomas served in the U.S. Army during WWll. He served his apprenticeship as a pattern maker in Detroit. He retired from J. & I Pattern Co. in 1985 after 30 years. Thomas was a member of the Gowanie Golf Club in Mt. Clemens and Verona Hills Golf Club in Bad Axe. Thomas is survived by his wife, Irene; children, Larry (Judy) Clegg of Grand Blanc, David (fiance Laura Rewitzer) of St. Clair Shores, Maryann (Lawrence) Iseler of Port Hope; grandchildren, Timothy Iseler of Kalamazoo, Amy Iseler of Bellevue, Washington; brother, Wilfred Clegg of California; sister-in-law, Betty Clegg of Roseville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Edith Smithers; brother, Herbert Clegg. Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 25 at Kranz Funeral Home of Cass City with Rev. Clarence VanConant of Port Hope officiating. Mr. Clegg was buried in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military rites were under the direction of Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644. Memorials may be made to the Genesys Hospice Center in Goodrich, Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society.

Allen F. (Butch) CLOUTIER--Millington--Passed away suddenly Friday, June 1, 2001 at the St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw. He was 61. Butch was born September 14, 1939 in Pontiac and was the son of Allen P. and Esther (Dudley) Cloutier. After high school Butch enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Midway aircraft carrier of which he served a brief time during the Vietnam Conflict. After the Navy on January 5, 1963 Butch married Carolyn Kozlowski and they shared 38 years together. In the early 1960's Carolyn and Butch moved to Millington which became their home. Butch became co-owner and operator of the Millington Screw Products. In 1997 Butch retired from the business after 32 years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and hiking, to mention just a few. Butch was also a faithful member of St. Francis X. Cabrini Catholic Church of Vassar. Butch leaves to cherish his memories his family, wife, Carolyn Cloutier of Millington; children, Diana and Dave Lumbard of Canton, Michelle and Don Cochrane of Hawks, and Michael (Mike) and Nicole Cloutier of Denver, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, Nick, Alex, Sarah, Emily, and Ashley; mother, Esther Cloutier of Vassar; sister, Marie Brooks of Fostoria; nieces and nephews. Butch was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Marie in 1986; his father, Allen P. Cloutier in 1995; and a brother-in-law, Leonard Brooks in 2001. Funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5 at St. Francis X. Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar with burial in Millington Twp. Cemetery in Millington. Father John Ederer celebrated the service.

Keith S. COLLING--Holiday, FL, formerly Caro--Passed away April 19, 2000 at his home in Florida following a lingering illness. He was 81. He was born April 5, 1919 in Colling, MI., the son of the late Leslie O. and Rose E. (Freeman) Colling. Keith served with the U.S. Army Air Force during WWll and was a member of the United Methodist Church. He married Reta Jean Chadwick on December 21, 1944 in Hanover, Ontario Canada. Keith was a supervisor at General Motors Truck & Bus in Pontiac for 34 years, retiring in 1974. Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, Janis Rose Colling of Waterford; one grandson, Jeffrey Baldwin of Dunnellon, FL; one granddaughter, Jennifer Rose Donelow of Clio; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Betty) Colling and William Colling of Caro; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, a brother, Courtland Colling of Waterford predeceased him. A memorial service will be held at the Indianfields Twp. Cemetery Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20 with Rev. Duane Miller officiating with burial to follow. Friends may call at the cemetery chapel at the time of the service Saturday. The Ransford Funeral Home of Caro assisted the family with these arrangements.

Wilhelmena "Willie" COLMAN--Wilhelmena Hyslop was born February 26, 1913 and married Leon Colman in 1933. He preceded her in 1984. She is survived by children and their spouses, Rex and Joyce Colman, Marie and Luther Stewart, Margery and Ronald Stange, and Geneva Horwath; grandchildren, Leon Colman, Jack Stewart, Steve Stange, Jim Stange, Kathy Dropeski, Rae Ann Hadd and Mike Horwath and their families; a niece and her husband, Carolyn and Leon Smith; brother-in-law, Charles Avery; several other nieces and nephews. Hazel M. CORNISH died Wednesday, October 31, 1990 in Marlette. She was 85. She was born December 21, 1904 to Dave and Frances Convis and was a life long resident. She married Roy Cornish on June 7, 1926 in Kingston, but he died in August of 1962. She is survived by one son, Lloyd Cornish of Kingston; and special friends Arlene and Kevin. She was preceded in death by one brother, J.D. Convis and one sister, Ermie Hunt. Funeral services were Sunday, November 4th at Marsh Funeral Chapel in Marlette with Rev. James Franklin officiating. Burial was in Kingston Cemetery.

Pioneer Woman Gone To Her Rest

Mrs. Margaret COULTES, wife of Geo. Coultes, resident of about six miles northwest of this place, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Newsome, on Friday of last week after a long illness. Mrs. Coultes had a very severe attack of typhoid fever about two years ago and since that time had been slowly failing in health. For a long time her condition was such that life hung in a balance from day to day but she slowly improved until she was able to sit up and was at the table with the family, though her condition was feeble. A change for the worse came a short time ago and she sank rapidly until death came to her relief last Friday. During all her long weeks of illness she bore her affliction with Christian fortitude. Mrs. Coultes was born in Canada 60 years ago and came to this county close to 30 years ago. She was well known and beloved by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She is survived by a husband and nine children, Mrs. Margaret Griffen, Geo. Coultes Jr., Mrs. Martha Olund, Mrs. Seth M. French, Charles Coultes, Mrs. Nettie Newsome, Mrs. Hettie Bala, Mrs. Aldene Gocha, and Thomas Coultes. Mrs. Griffen, Charles and Thomas Coultes reside in the Canadian Northwest, the other children living in this neighborhood. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, Rev. U. G. Rich officiating and the interment in Fairview cemetery.

Beulah A. CRAIG--Cass City--Passed away on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Tendercare in Cass City. She was 89. She was born on April 3, 1912, in Caro, the daughter of the late Robert and Anna (Metcalf) Milner. Beulah Milner married Paul Craig on Aug. 29, 1937, in Caro. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1977. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a teaching degree, and taught in both Caro and Cass City public school systems. She enjoyed reading, and was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church. She is survived by one sister, Norma McNeil of Caro; her sisters-in-law, Enid Craig of Cass City and Geraldine Milner of Flint; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Reva Little of Cass City; and a brother, Rev. Robert Milner of Flint. A memorial service will be held at Cass City United Methodist Church on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. with Dr. Phil Rice officiating. Burial has taken place in Indianfields Twp. Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the Collon Funeral Home of Caro. Friends may call at the church on Saturday at the time of service. Funeral arrangements were made by the Collon Funeral Home in Caro.

Genevieve CRAIG--West Branch, IA formerly of Caro, MI.--Passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2000 at Crestview Care and Rehabilitation Center in West Branch, Iowa, following a short illness. She was 82. She was born on March 1, 1918 in Caro, the daughter of Leo and Hannah Smalley Allen. She was a Caro High School graduate. Genevieve married Willis Craig and the couple lived in Detroit for several years until the death of Willis. She moved to Caro and in 1979 to West Branch, Iowa, to be near her sister. Mrs. Craig was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the West Branch United Methodist Church. She made handiwork and sold her items at flea markets. She is survived by four sons, Beaudry Craig of Caro, Dallas and Lucy Craig of Reese, Leon and Sheilah Craig of Titusville, FL, Kenneth R. Craig of Coralville, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents; a brother, Floyd; and a sister, Flavia Murch. Funeral service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church on Friday, June 9 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ray Jacques officiating. Burial will be in Almer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from noon until the 1 p.m. service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Local arrangements were handled by the Collon Funeral Home of Caro.

Glen H. CREGAR--Caro--Died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at his residence. He was 65. Mr. Cregar was born in Millington on March 24, 1936, the son of Glen and Viva (Hart) Cregar. He married Donna St. Amour on Feb. 11, 1956 in Otisville. He was a member of BRC Union. Mr. Cregar was retired from C & O Railroad after 31 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Donna; son and daughter-in-law, Glen Roy and Debora Cregar of Caro; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Cregar and Katy and Ron Ware of Millington; three brothers, George Cregar of Millington, Douglas Cregar of Mt. Morris, Donald and Marion Cregar of Columbiaville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mariel Hoffman and Betty Cregar. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 at Hudson Funeral Home of Otisville with Rev. Bill McKown officiating. Interment in Thetford Twp. Cemetery.

Lillian M. CRITTENDEN--Caro--Passed away Friday evening, April 20, 2001 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, following a lingering illness. She was 84. Lillian May Knight was born March 17, 1917 in Caro, the daughter of the late Arthur and Matilda (Graubner) Knight and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the Caro First Baptist Church and the Tuscola County Senior Citizens Club. She had been employed for many years at the W.N. Clark Co. during the canning seasons. She was married to Merald L. Crittenden on June 2, 1937 in Caro. He died January 29, 1972. She was married to his twin brother, Harold E. Crittenden on April 6, 1974. He predeceased her on November 4, 1981. Surviving are two daughters, Alice Traster and Wilma (Charles) Roose, all of Caro; eight grandchildren, Ruth and Karl Traster of Caro, Steven Traster of Minden City, Lori (Matthew) Price of Madison, Ala., Jeanne (Ronald) Matthews of Port Huron, Beth (Bryan) Bruce of Columbiaville, Spec. Allen (Esther) Roose, serving with the U.S. Army in Germany and Dale (Karen) Roose of Caro; 15 great-grandchildren, Shiann, Kristin, Derek and Darian Traster, Derek and Dalton Price, Jarrod and Dustin Roose, Michele Matthews, Tony and Nicole Bruce, Robert Neuville-Childs, Marlana, Billiejo and Karson Reid; two sisters-in-law, Harriet Crittendon of Columbiaville and Zella Rock of Royal Oak; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by an infant sister in 1907, Mary Knight; a brother, Lester Knight in 1972; a sister, Mary Hitchcock in 1993; one granddaughter, Pamela Roose in 1963; and a son-in-law, Carl Traster in 1998. Funeral service took place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24 at the Ransford Funeral Home in Caro. Rev. Ronald C. Wigand of the Caro First Baptist Church officiated with burial in East Dayton Cemetery. The pallbearers were Allen Roose, Dale Roose, Ronald Matthews, Bryan Bruce, Steven Traster, Matthew Price and Larry Simonye, Jr. Memorials may be made to the Caro First Baptist Church Building Project, Heartland Hospice, Tuscola County Medical Care Facility or the Alzheimer's Association of Mid-Michigan.

Marion F. CUTLER--Bayside Village, formerly Baraga--Passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at Bayside Village in L'Anse. She was 93. She was born May 26, 1907 in Detroit, daughter of the late Frank and May (Duffy) Smith. She graduated from Detroit Northern High School, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University with a teaching certificate. She was a lifelong member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, U of M branch. She taught school in the Detroit school system for 15 years. She married C. Mark Cutler on April 9, 1931 in Detroit. He preceded her in death in 1962. Mrs. Cutler was a member of the Christian Science Church in Caro. She is survived by two daughters, Jane (David) Neese of Caro and Anne Schutte of Baraga; five grandchildren, Joe (Katy) Schutte, Liz (Gary) Nevala, and Suzie (Paul) DeMuth, Mark (Lynda) Neese, Mike (Katherine) Neese; three great-grandchildren. Funeral service was on September 15 at 11 a.m. at Sirard Funeral Home. Burial was in Baraga Cemetery. A reader from the Christian Science Church in Houghton officiated. The Sirard Funeral Home in Baraga was in charge of arrangements.

Angel Rose DAILY--Reese--Newborn daughter of Troy M. and Marianne H. (Daniels) Daily died Thursday morning, July 20, 2000 at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Surviving besides Angel's parents are one sister, Rachel at home; her paternal grandparents, Paul and Mary Ann Daily of Caro; her maternal grandparents, Norman and Jan Daniels of Caro; her paternal great-grandparents, Rosalie Jackson of Caro; her maternal great-grandparents, Claude and Rose Daniels of Sterling and Tony and Helen Zawacki of Bentley. She was predeceased by her paternal great-grandparents, Jim and Ada Daily and Edward Jackson. A graveside service will be at Indianfields Twp. Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 24 with the Rev. Mattie M. DEERING--Cass City--Died Thursday, July 13, 2000 at Hills & Dales General Hospital, Cass City. She was 86. She was born April 2, 1914 in Elmwood Township to Collin and Mary (Summers) Bingham. She married Adam G. Deering February 24, 1933 in Caseville. He died August 3, 1978. Mattie retired from General Cable in 1978 after 19 years. She thoroughly loved embroidery and reading. Mattie is survived by her children, Valerie Downing of Gagetown, Duane J. "Mick" (Carol) Deering of Unionville, Roger (Jean) Deering of Cass City; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Deering; sister, Leola B. TerBush. Funeral service will be hels at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15 at Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with Rev. Eric Holmgren of Cass City First Baptist Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of the donor's choice.

Harriet Hazel (Hodgkinson) DELINE--Caro--God received a special angel on Sunday, August 13, 2000 while at home. She was 74. Harriet was born on October 10, 1925 in Otisville and was the daughter of Harry and Hazel (Frick) Hodgkinson. She lived most of her life in the Vassar/Millington area. On January 2, 1945 she married Marshall (Bud) Deline and together they celebrated 42 years of marriage before his death in March of 1987. Harriet loved the outdoors and especially loved picking berries. Harriet leaves to cherish her memory, her family, three children and their spouses, Marshall Jr. of Mayville, Marsha and James Fifield of Flint, Annette and Robert Boyce of Caro; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister and husband, Katherine and John Kelly of Gladwin; brother, Donald Hodgkinson of Flint; sister-in-law, Mae Dynes of Davison; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and Phyllis Deline of Romulus; many nieces, nephews, and life-long friends. Harriet was preceded in death by husband, Marshall; infant son, Wayne; grandson, Daniel; brothers, Art and Allen. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 17 at the Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington with burial to follow in the Pineview Mennonite Cemetery in Vassar. William DEWALD--Oscoda, formerly Akron--Died of cancer at his home on Thursday, May 18, 2000. He was 70. The son of Jacob and Elizabeth (nee Stengel) Dewald, William was born on March 17, 1930, the youngest of his parents' 12 children. After graduating from Akron High School in 1948, he worked for Woodcraft in Bay City. Will married the former Barbara Lou Prime on April 15, 1950. He worked as a carpenter and mason for Partlo brothers Construction in Akron before accepting a position as custodian at Akron-Fairgrove Schools, from which he retired in 1995. Will was a member of the Akron Fire Department for 40 years, was an extremely active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Fairgrove, and was an enthusiastic amateur wood carver. Will is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara; a daughter, Karen Riegle and her husband, Tim of Bad Axe; sons, Donald of San Bernardino, CA, David of Akron and Steven of Westland; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Riegle and Sarah Riegle of Bad Axe; two brothers and two sisters, Jacob of Akron, Frederick of Unionville, Emily Wisenbaugh of Menominee Falls, Wisconsin and Lydia Voss of Akron. Will will be missed by his brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three infant sons; six brothers, Alex, Phillip, David, George, Henry and John; and one sister, Elizabeth Campbell. Pastor Boehne of Trinity Lutheran in Oscoda and Pastor Peterson of Grace Lutheran conducted the funeral service on Wednesday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran in Fairgrove. Burial was in Demorest Cemetery in Akron. Alexander B. (Britt) DICKS--Caro--Passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Caro Community Hospital. He was 73. He was born on February 12, 1927, at Ypsilanti, and moved to Caro as a child. Britt was a Caro High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran of World War ll. After his discharge, he worked as an independent milk contractor, worked at Michigan Sugar Company and was a hobby farmer. He most recently was a resident care aide at the Caro Regional Center, until his retirement. He was one of the founders of the Tuscola County Civil Air Patrol and was once chairman of the school board for the Orr-Moore Country School. Britt was a member of the Theron W. Atwood, Sr. American Legion Post #7, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Caro Post #4164 and the State of Michigan Retirees Association. He is survived by his longtime fiancee, Bev Smith; 10 children, Mary and Gordon Taggett of Caro, Britton and Rose Dicks of Caro, Allen Dicks of Caro, Carol and Don Hartman of Clio, Samuel Dicks of Holly, Lerry and Tammy Dicks of Cass City, Kelly and Mark Titus of Cass City, James Dicks and Renee Bowers of Snover, Robert and Thelma Dicks of Caro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Proctor; and two brothers, William James Samuel Dicks and Robert A. Dicks. Funeral service was held at Collon Funeral Home of Caro on Saturday, August 12 at 11 a.m. with V.F.W. Chaplain officiating. A military graveside service was held at Almer Township Cemetery under the auspices of the Caro V.F.W. Post #4164 and the Theron W. Atwood, Sr. American Legion Post #7. Betty L. DOERR--Cass City--Died Thursday, June 22, 2000 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. She was 72. She was born September 25, 1927 in Cass City to Roy and Lela (Spaulding) Wright. She married Philip A. Doerr on September 2, 1949 in Bowling Green, OH. He died October 22, 1982. Betty worked at Sommers Bakery for nearly 10 years. She enjoyed reading, gardening and watching birds outside. She also enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, her great-grandson and her family. Betty is survived by her children, Robert (Michelle) Doerr of Kalamazoo, Mary (Cass) Stuba of Clinton Township, David (Janice) Doerr of Cass City, Sally Barnes of Cass City, Tony Doerr of Austin, TX; granddaughters, Shelly (Scott) Desmet, Chrissy Stuba, Lee Doerr, Laura Barnes, Caitie Barnes, Libby Doerr, Rebecca Doerr; great-grandson, Brendan Desmet; sisters, Pauline (Richard) Holcomb of Ypsilanti, Nila (Richard) Thorp of Caro; brother, Cliff Wright of Ypsilanti; many nieces and nephews. Christine (Crawford) DOLL--New York--Private funeral services were held Thursday, April 5, 2001 for Mrs. Richard Doll, the former Christine Crawford, who died Tuesday, April 3 in her New York apartment after a long illness. Dr. Arthur Coliandro, pastor of Marble Collegiate Church officiated at the service. Christine, daughter of the late Duncan Crawford and Mrs. Crawford was born in Gagetown in 1934, graduated from Unionville High School in 1952 and from the University of Michigan in 1956. After a year of serving as hostess for American Airlines she was married to Richard Doll of Mt. Clemens. The couple had made their home in New York City ever since. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Lauren, at home and Linda, married to Andy Jacobs, in Ridgeville, Conn.; two grandchildren, Allegra and Justine; her mother, Bernice Crawford of Frankenmuth and several cousins.

Laverne Harold DONNELLY--Vassar--Passed away suddenly in his home Wednesday, October 11, 2000. He was 61. He was born on April 9, 1939 in Saginaw and was the son of William Donnelly and Elvira Berlin McCreedy. Laverne had been employed as a welder at Peter's Manufacturing in Vassar. Vern enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and spending time with his family and with his many nieces and nephews. He had been a resident of Vassar since 1958 and was a member of Vassar F.O.E. #2380. Vern leaves behind Nancy, his loving wife of 44 years; his son, Patrick; his granddaughters, Amy, Jenny and Tricia; his great-grandmother, Kayla; his mother, Elvira McCreedy; and his brother, Midge Donnelly. He was preceded in death by his father, William and his brother, Duane. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 14 at the Hanlin Chapel for Funerals in Vassar with burial to follow in the Millington Township Cemetery. Pastor Cyril Haines will officiate. Pat retired from Amerigas and had worked at General Cable and Fuelgas. He was in the Navy and served on the Daniel Joy during the Korean War. He attended Cass City Missionary Church. Pat enjoyed hunting, camping, woodworking, playing guitar, and being on the water. He was a member of Millington Church of God and attended Millington High School. Vince was an aspiring guitar star. Paul Gene DUCKER--Otter Lake--Died Sunday, May 26, 2001 in Flint. He was 78. Paul was born on August 9, 1922 in Signal Mountain, Tenn., son of Byron and Dora (Robbins) Ducker. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWll. Paul retired from Buick Motor Division in 1980, completing 30 years of service, and was a member of the Davison V.F.W. He enjoyed collecting guitars, guns and trading horses. He was the special friend of Beverly Allen; dear father of Gene Ducker of Otter Lake, Tonya (Steve) Mays of Flint and Ileen (Wyman) Byers of North Branch; proud grandfather of Brandon Byers; brother of Mary Lewis of Tenn. and Clarence Ducker of Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; sisters, Dorothy, Julie Bryant; and three brothers, Carl, Jim and William Ducker. Sebewaing, MI.--The funeral of Floyd George DUTCHER, 49, a commercial fisherman here, who died Monday at the Pigeon Hospital, will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical U.B. Church. Burial will be in Silverlawn Cemetery. Mr. Dutcher was born Oct. 26, 1903, in Sebewaing. He married Louis MacKay on April 11, 1927, in Bay City. He leaves his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Collier Ruebelt; two grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dutcher, all of Sebewaing; four brothers, Earl of Alpena, and Wesley, Harold and Kenneth of Sebewaing; three sisters, Mrs. Laverne Fales of Detroit, Mrs. Haven Rupp of Flint, and Mrs. Harry Meyers of Fort Wayne.

Dena DYKHOUSE--Vassar--Died Sunday, June 4, 2000 at Brian's House in Essexville. She was born in Ottawa County, near Holland, MI. on August 15, 1899. She married Clarence Dykhouse, June 7, 1923, and came to Vassar where she resided until she was taken to Brian's House on May 5, 2000. She joined the Vassar First United Methodist Church in 1924, rarely missing a Sunday until her health forced her to become a shut-in at age 98. She was active in the Woman's Society of the Church. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she held several offices over the years. In the mid-1980's she was recognized as the living spouse of a charter member of the Cass River Gideons. She leaves one son, Leon and his wife, Arleen; two granddaughters, Judith Williams and her husband, Gary, of Houston, Texas, and Barbara Howse of Vassar; two great-grandchildren, Arthur and Katherine Williams of Houston, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence, on December 5, 1970. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Vassar. Pastor Richard Sheppard will officiate. She will be buried in the Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland. Connie (Sweet) EWALD--Millington--Went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, June 19, 2000. She was 51. Connie was born December 21, 1948 to Gale and Janet (King) Sweet. She moved to Mayville about 1952 and attended Mayville Schools. She married Darrel Ewald May 1, 1971 at Mills Memorial Baptist Church in Mayville. She was very active with her high school class of 1967 in Mayville. She was a volunteer for Mayville Area Share Shop, Out Reach Program of Tuscola County and worked several years for Tuscola County's Christmas in July. She was a member and officer of Mayville Alumni Association and Mills Memorial Baptist Church. Leaving to cherish her memory are her husband, Darrel; son, Eric (Melissa) of Vista, CA; daughters, Amy Gregor (John) of Vassar, Deborah and Laura at home; one granddaughter, Allison Gregor of Vassar; one brother, Roger (Julie) Sweet of Mayville; her parents, Gale and Janet Sweet.
