Orlo was born Orlo Dell Summers in 1895 near Brock in Scotland County Missouri. His parents were Benjamin Summers and Laura (nee Jones). He spent his lifetime farming in Scotland County. He died in 1981.

Irene was born Irene Mabel Biggs in Scotland County in 1898. Her parents were Harlan Ray Biggs and Cora Ellen (nee Rugh), also of Scotland County. Irene died in Bloomfield Iowa in 1983.
