Sara was born in November 1824 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to Daniel Williams (the Jr.) and Catharine (nee Fiske). She was a sister to Zeruah, wife of Michael Rugh.

She married John (Jesse John) Rugh (1820-1904), a son of John Jacob Rugh (the Jr.) and Betsy (nee Keppel). John was a brother to Michael, the husband of Zeruah Rugh.

Two Williams sisters married two Rugh brothers.

Sara and John spent their lives in Westmoreland County. He was a Coachmaker by profession.

They were buried in the old Union Cemetery near Greensburg.
