Virgil was born on November 1, 1900 to Simeon Phares and Minnie (nee Rugh).

She married Orville Onken on November 20, 1922.

They spent the greater part of their lives prior to retirement operating their farm in Scotland County, Missouri, retiring to Memphis Missouri in their twilight years.

Virgil passed away in Memphis on April 19, 1995. Orville followed her in death on December 14, 2000. They are buried in the Memphis Cemetery.
