Albert Steve Ragsdale

Albert was born on August 5, 1823 in Oldham, Oldham County, Kentucky to Drury Ragsdale & Sally (nee Staton).
On March 14, 1849 he married Miss Nancy Gray. Nancy was born in Trimble County, Kentucky in 1831.
Albert & Nancy had children: Sarah (b. 1849), Nancy (b. 1850), Silas (b. 1851), James (b. 1853), and Rose (b. 1854). All were born in Kentucky.
Sometime about 1855 Albert moved (with his family) to Martin County, Indiana. Wife Nancy died about this same time, probably in Kentucky before Albert made the move.
Albert and his children came to live on a farm four miles from the little Shoals Post Office in Martin County.
On September 2, 1858 in Dover Hill, Indiana he married a neighbor girl, Miss Catherine Way. Catherine was born about 1832 in Indiana. She was previously married to a Mr. William Gillock. Albert & Catherine did not have children and she died about 1860.
On August 14, 1862 (following the start of the civil war) he enlisted as a Private in Company A, 17th Indiana Volunteer Mounted Infantry. He was captured by the enemy at one point in the war and was paroled to finish out his enlistment. He contacted smallpox and suffered damage to his eyesight for which he afterward received a pension.
On July 13, 1865 he married Miss Clara Way, younger sister of his previous wife, Catherine. Albert & Clara did not have children. Clara died on November 30, 1872.
On June 19, 1873 he married another Way sister, Sarah Jane. She had one child by Albert: Ettie Ragsdale (b. 1878).
Albert died on November 18, 1898 in Martin County, Indiana. He is buried at the Simmons - Way Cemetery in Halbert Township in Martin County.
Sarah Jane died on August 20, 1900 in Martin County and is buried in the same cemetery with Albert.
