•Wendy TAPPINGs OXLADE info. Some years ago Peter H OXLADE purchased the Marriage Cert of George OXLADE a Butler & Mary Ann EVANS 3 Jun 1857 Islington. They were shown only as of full age. Fathers William OXLADE a Carpenter & John EVANS a Gardener. At the time I took him to be the son of William OXLADE and Eleanor WALLER. I feel that the parents were most probably Richard OXLADE and Elizabeth SWAIN. Richard had died when George was 12 and perhaps like many people he didn't know his father's Christian Name. Alternatively according to the various Census he was around 19 when he married not of full age as stated and perhaps he deliberately gave a wrong name. Another possibility is that the father was William OXLADE of Cookham who was at times a Carpenter & Grocer and had one son Christened in Southwark, however if George is telling the truth in the Census regarding his age, there is no "space" for him in William's family unless he was a twin.

JUSTIFICATION:

Mary wife of BRIGINSHAW gave various Birth Years and Places of Birth HOWEVER in

1851 Census Mark NOBLE describes Eleanor BRIGINSHAW as his Niece

Mark Noble abt 1779 Birmingham, Warwickshire, England Head Beckenham Kent Land & Fundholder

Mark NOBLE married Sophia OXLADE (Christened 7 May 1781 Great Marlow) dau of Robert Johnathan OXLADE and Mary GOUGH 20 Aug 1807 Great Marlow.

In 1861 The widowed Sophia NOBLE shows Anna Maria BRIGINSHAW as her Niece.

Census 1861

Anna Maria Briginton abt 1841 Barnham, Buckinghamshire, England Niece Beckenham Kent Unmarried

Sophia Noble abt 1787 Great Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England Head Beckenham Kent Fundholder

Mary OXLADE Christened 9 Mar 1798 Great Marlow dau of Robert Johnathan OXLADE and Mary GOUGH --- PROBABLY married Thomas BRIGENSHAW (1802 Great Marlow/Taplow - 1852 Eton) around 1825 then moved to Burnham and later Eton and POSSIBLY in London in 1881 though there is a Death Registration for New Windsor Jun Qtr 1871

Robert Johnathan OXLADE was the third son of Johnathan OXLADE and Mary GAGE so didn't inherit Widmer Farm. He seems to have been shown as a Grocer in the Posse Comitatus.

Interestingly, his father was a second son but somehow was favoured over his elder brother Robert OXLADE who was left a pound and a shilling in his fathers Will and no more than I have provided for him in life. Old John OXLADE left Robert's sons the same amount to be given at age 21 then in a Codicil changed the second grandsons inheritance to his small silver cup with 2 handles.

His wife may have objected to the first Will as she is removed as Co-executor with son Johnathan in the Codicil.

To which I THINK I can add Andrew McKenzie Oxlade McLachlan born 12 Dec 1896 possibly the son of Rosa Jeannie Oxlade (daughter of Frederick Oxlade and Elizabeth Hill the brother and s-i-l of Robert J Oxlade [1834-1894] forebear of David A Oxlade. Frederick Oxlade was a relative of Margie Maginnis.

PLUMRIDGE

To introduce myself : Peter Plumridge, a direct descendant of William Plumridge and Mary, Thomas and Hannah, thence via Jonathan -

together with my Gt. Grandfather Jonathan, George and Reuben are shown also as sons of Thomas and Hannah.

I suggest instead George and Reuben were sons of a William and Mary, nee Braishier, Mary being a younger sister of Elizabeth Oxlade, nee Braishier,( my Hannah was of course another sister of Elizabeth ). William and Mary marr. 7/4/1828 ( Fingest P.R.).

What leads me to believe that George and Reuben shown in the Census Returns 1841 and 1851 as nephews in the Oxlade household might have been the sons of William and Mary?

In the burials, Fingest P.R. 5/4/1837 there is a William aged 42 and Mary 29/6/1840 aged 39---that ties in withMary's bpt. 14/3/1801, Fingest.

So if the boys'parents were William and Mary they were orphaned young and went off to live with Aunt Elizabeth (Oxlade).

Interestingly there is a marr. cert.2/7/1859 of a Reuben, the son of a William Plumridge, Reuben's age, 26, ties in sufficiently well with the 1841 and 1851 Census Returns also a bpt. 6/10/1833 (I.G.I) q.v. The marriage was to Dinah Cross, 37, at Wooburn---a bit distant but the pair are revealed as being together in the 1881 Census index at Wycombe, Reuben having been born at Watercroft near the Cadmore End -West Wycombe boundary, Reuben's age is just slightly out----that's the way of Census Returns! The above suggests to me that the George and Reuben in the Oxlade household (assuming they were indeed brothers) were on balance the offspring of William and Mary and not Thomas and Hannah.

Quite separately I see some of the Plumridge info. appears to be attributed to me, no quarrel with that (apart from George and Reuben----the info. on them being from A.N.Other presumably) however a b has crept into my name ; if this falls within your sphere of activity can my name be corrected from Plumbridge to Plumridge please.

Further I note the reference to Elizabeth Oxlade as the informant on the deaths of Thomas and Hannah, she being shown as the sister and sister in law respectively, i.e. as the death certificates I hold, however in this context the site also shows her as the wife of Joseph Oxlade ---- I submitthat this is another Elizabeth Oxlade, and not the one who was the informant, why? Because the marr. cert. of Joseph and Elizabeth nee Plumridge 25/10/1840 shows Elizabeth's father to have been John Plumridge and not William as one would have expected to see for a sister of Thomas: maybe there's a story here I have yet to discover. This correction was omitted from this uploading.

Re Elizabeth OXLADE who Witnessed the Deaths of Thomas PLUMRIDGE and his wife Hannah BRAZIER

It is possible that this is Elizabeth PLUMRIDGE (1792-1871) widow who married George OXLADE (1812-1878) 23 Feb 1835 Fingest, Bucks. George OXLADE (who was 20 years younger than Elizabeth) was the nephew of Johnathan OX:ADE whose was the brother-in-law of Hannah BRAZIER. It may be that Elizabeth was the widow of Thomas PLUMRIDGES brother Richard.
