This photo of "Harold Capes" was sent to me believing
that he was related to the Capes that married into the Chapman Family.
I have been unable to identify this individual. Any help would be
appreciated.

Subject: Harold Capes
Hi Ollie,
I think this Harold Capes was related
through Mamie Chapman's Husband, Elbert Jefferson Capes. As you know,
Mamie is the daughter of John F. and Mattie Dial Chapman.
I found Harold Capes in the 1920 Newton
County Ga. Census. Harold's parents were James W. and Missouri Capes. He
had three brothers, Marshall, Emmett, and Ralph. Harold was 14 in the
1920 census. I am going to try and find out just how he was related to
Elbert Capes, Mamie
Chapman's husband. By the way, Mamie Chapman
and Elbert Capes had 11Children. I have some of their information if you
don't have it.
Phyllis
Thanks Phyllis, we certainly appreciate your help.

This grave marker was photographed in the Carmel
Church Cemetery, Mansfield, Georgia. I have been unable to identify
Frances with any of my Chapman line. Does anyone know which Chapman
Family she belongs?
I have been informed that
Frances is the daughter of William M. and Zillie Chapman. John M being the
son of John Fields Chapman and his first wife Martha Jane Allen.

1. John M. Chapman
was born Abt. 1816 in Georgia,
and died 1868 in Hancock County Georgia. He married (1) Martha H. Crews
January 01, 1838 in Green County, Georgia. She was born in Georgia. He
married (2) Sarah (Sally) E. Jones May 27, 1855 in Greene County, Georgia.
She was born Abt. 1840, and died Abt. 1890 in Greene County Georgia.
Notes for John M. Chapman:
In the 1850 Greene County Census (USGenweb) his
occupation is listed as Overseer. By the time of the 1860 census, he was
an overseer in neighboring Hancock County. Since there were only four
plantations in Hancock County large enough to have an overseer, I hope to
eventually determine exactly which of those plantations he worked on. John
M. Chapman died in 1868, after being struck by lightening. His youngest
child, Maria, was only a baby at the time. As of December 2002, I have not
been able to establish the father of John M. Chapman. It is most likely
that he is the son of
Randal Chapman, b. about 1791 in Abbeville Co.,
South Carolina (son of
John Chapman of Halifax Co., Virginia and later
Abbeville Co., South Carolina). I continue to work on finding the parents
of John M. Chapman.
Also, there is a possibility that John M Chapman is the
twin brother of William Marion Chapman.
