More About Glenn Arthur Kidwell: Cause of Death: lung cancer

Notes for Glenn Arthur Kidwell: Source: "Kidwell Family" notes authored by Glenn Arthur Kidwell. Owned by Linda Sue Kidwell, daughter of Glenn Arthur Kidwell. "Kidwell has been used extensively as a surname for a number of centuries particularly in Whales. According to authorities on the origion of names it is obtained from the Old English 'cyd' and 'well' the former meaning 'strife or battle' and the latter being a variant of 'weald' which denotes 'power'. Thus in its original instances of use, Kidwell was applied to those who were powerful in battle."

Benjamin Kidwell (1754-1810) served as a private in the Maryland militia during the Revolutionary War. He was born in Wales and died in Maryland.

Prince Georges County, Maryland, is apparently the ancestrial home of a substantial number of the present day members of the Kidwell family in this country. The first census of the United States, taken in 1790, has eleven listings of persons by the name of Kidwell who were residents of Maryland and heads of families at that time, ten of whom lived in Prince Georges County. In contrast, the census records of Virginia for the same year have only one reference to persons by the name of Kidwell--Hezekiah Kidwell, of Fairfax County.

Among the early marriage bonds filed in Hampshire County were those of David Hawkins and Mary Kidwell on October 1, 1825.

She was the recipient of several patents relating to immunology.

The following is what is known of the life of John Hiatt (name sometimes spelled Hiett)

John Hiatt was born about 1674 in England and was a Quaker before the death of George Fox, the founder of the Society of Friends. When John Hiatt was about twenty one years of age, he married Mary Smith, the daughter of William and Grace Smith. What happened to them after their marriage in England if not clear, but there was a John Hiatt that was taken prisoner in Somerset-shore in 1683 (this date should probably be 1693) at the time the Quakers were persecuted. The record says that he lived in the village of Shipton Mallet. It may be the same John Hiatt, (then again it may not). At any rate, he turned up in Pennsylvania in 1699 and bought 300 acres of land in Bucks Co. for 350 Pounds. His deed is in the Courthouse at Doylestown, the seat of Bucks Co. John was about 26 years of age at this time, (his wife was 22). They had three small sons, the youngest a little baby.

There is another deed on record there, dated 1706 when John Hiatt bought some more land in Bucks Co. on the Delaware River that had originally belonged to William Penn. Furtheer records show that John Hiatt was alive in 1726, but do not show how much longer he lived. His wife, Mary was alive in 1745 at the age of 78, but her death date is not known.
