The Old Swilley Family Cemetery is located so deep in the lower part of Echols County that you can literally walk to the Florida State Line from its location. It took me a while to find it but thanks to my cell phone and some good locals I was there in just a short while. There is somewhat of a history of this cemetery in the "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia" books but I won't go into that here. If you are researching the Swilley families then you may wish to check those books out.
One item of interest that I will share is this; on my first trip there as John and I was walking the fence row there was a herd of deer walk out of the woods. They did not scare or cut and run, they just loped off. The pines give the area a flavor of good ole southern hospitality and reminded me of the days when I was in school and would camp out with the guys on the weekend. How I would love to take a tent (with wheels of course) and stay the weekend in those woods. Only if you have ever done that would you know what I am talking about.
One item of interest you may wish to keep in mind, do not confuse this cemetery with the Swilley Hill cemetery which is located on Hickory Grove Road. That one is near the Swilley Hill Church of God.
