CROWELL CEMETERY
FT. MITCHELL, ALABAMA

On Sunday, January 11, 2004, I made a journey to Ft. Mitchell, Alabama to attend the second annual memorial service honoring Brigadier General James Cantey the founder of the 15th Alabama unit (CSA). It was a real treat to see all of the units and re-enactors gather together for this memorial service.

cemetery overview

This is a view of the Crowell Cemetery as you approach it from the parking lot. Although there is a large parking area nearby you can still drive down to the cemetery.

This is an inside view of the cemetery. James Cantey is buried between where I am standing and the large upright marker.

Here you see the re-enactors firing their muskets in memory of Brigadier General James Cantey. The 15th Alabama Company E is the unit that I associate with. I am a civilian. I sorta follow them around for support, taking pictures, getting in the way and generally wasting their time. Sometimes I even share some of my pictures with them to put on their website. My guys are the ones in white to the left of this picture. The gentleman standing sideways to the far left is our Captain, Steve Lowery.
