March 2, 1905, Page 15, Column 3&4 William Walker Dead William Walker was born in Beilar, Belmont County, Ohio, May 1, 1835, and died Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, about one o'clock. The end came as the result of a gradual failing in health extending over a period of two years. Since September last he had been very sick, but he bore up under his affliction with all patience and uncomplaint. He was the fourth child of Andrew and Millie Walker and was one of a family of nine children. He came from Ohio to Illinois in 1851. August 8, 1854, he was united in marriage to Sarah Brown at Illinois City and to them were born five children, two daughters and three sons, William Henry, Andrew Jackson, Mrs. Josephine Welch, Hugh, and Mrs. Lucinda Murray. He enrolled March 8, 1865, as a volunteer in the Civil War and served one year as a member of Co. I, 28th Ill. Vol. Inft. In early life he sought the Lord and endeavored to lead an exemplary Christian life. To a friend he said a short time prior to his death he knew that he had made many mistakes, but he had always wanted to live right. Mr. Walker was so destitute of anything like personal greed or selfishness that he devoted a life of hard toil to other's financial betterment, being uncomplainingly satisfied with the lot of an honest poor man. Funeral services were held from the M. E. church in New Boston Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Woods officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in New Boston Cemetery. Hugh WalkerAledo Times RecordWed. Apr 13, 1932 Hugh Walker, son of William and Sarah Walker was born Feb 17, 1863 and died April 8, 1932, age 70 years, one month, and 22 days. The cause of death was dropsy of the heart. He leaves to mourn his death, one brother, William Walkekr, a number of nieces and nephews who attended the services. One brother, Andrew J. Walker, two sisters, Mrs. Lucinda Murray, and Mrs. Josephine Welch, preceded him in death. He was a life resident of Mercer County and lived near New Boston on a farm alone until death came. He had many friends, was honest and respected. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the M. E. church, Rev. H. Gillis officiating. The music was furnished by Mrs. Fred Ives, Mrs. Hattie Prouty and Mrs. Meda Steele who sang "Going Down the Valley," "Saved by Grace", "Nearer my God to Thee." and a solo "Some Bright Morning" by Meda Steele. Pall bearers were John Bjustard, Fred Bruce, M. E. Honeyman, Charles Fisher, Harvey, Harris, Frank Gilmore. the relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Blaine of Viola, Mrs. Lewis Smith, Viola; Frank R. Welch and wife and son, Ralph of Rock Island; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Welch, Rock Island; Don Walker, Galesburg, Mrs. Amanda Chandler, Galesburg, and Mrs. Donald Williams, Galesburg. Lucinda Walker MurrayAledo TimesJuly 1928 Mrs. Lucinda Murray who, with her husband and family, has made her home in Kewanee for the last eight or nine years, died at the Cottage hospital in galesburg, at 4:45 o'clock Sunday morning. She was 64 years old. Mrs. Murry has been in poor health since an operation about five years ago, but her last illness began a week ago Saturday. On Monday night she was taken to the Galesburg Hospital, where she died the folloowing Sunday. She had suffered from cerebral hemorrhages. Born in Rock Island County Lucinda Walker was born in Illinois City, Rock Island County, September 9, 18t64, but most of her life was spent in Mercer county. On Oct 8, 1891, she was united in marriage to Thomas Murray in Millersburg. After their marriage they resided for a year in Springfield and then for fourteen years in Petersville. After spending five years in Marion county the family moved to Kewanee. Six Children Survive Besides her husband, six children survive, one having died last September. Mrs. Ruth Leola Devon. The surviving children are Purn, Grace and Nettie, who are at home; Mrs. Pearl Doxsee, East Moline, and Mrs. Hazel Williams and Mrs. Bessie Gordon of Kewanee. There are two grandchildren, Fred Doxsee and John Gordon. Three brothers, William, Jack and Hugh of New Boston are the other survivors of the immediate family. One sister, Mrs. James Welch, died in Viola. The funeral service will be held from the home, 249 West McClure Street, at 1:30 o'clock Thursday and from the Baptist church at 2 o'clock. The rev. Mr. E. A. Lower will be in charge. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. James and Josephine Walker WelchRock Island, Il, ArgusMon, May 24, 1926 MRS. WELCH OF VIOLA, AGED 64, DIES SUDDENLY ___________ Lifelong Resident of Mercer County Succumbs to Heart Disease at Home ___________ Viola, Ill., May 24.--Mrs. J. B. Welch, 64 years of age, a life resident of Mercer county and a resident of Viola for the last 10 years, died suddenly here at 3 o'clock yesterday morning at her home. Death was due to heart trouble. Josephine Walker was born April 17, 1862 in New Boston, Ill., where she was reared and educated. She was united in marriage with J. B. Welch in about 1884, the ceremony taking place in New Boston. The widower survives. She was a member of the Methodist church in Viola. Surviving with the widower are three sons, Frank R.and Fred M. Welch, of Rock Island, and Ira C. Welch of Viola, and two daughters, Mrs. William Blaine, Viola, and Miss Lena Elizabeth Welch of Viola. Two brothers, Jackson and Hugh Walker, both of New Boston, and one sister, Mrs. Thomas Murray of Kewanee, also survive with two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church in Viola, with Rev. Mr. Shiveley, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Viola cemetery. Rock Island Argus Rock Island, Illinois Saturday November 15, 1930 James B. Welch James B. Welch, 73 years old, former Mercer county farmer, died at 1:10 o'clock this afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Louis Smith, 1319 Forty-fifth avenue, Rock Island, after an illness of 18 months. Mr. Welch was born Nov 27, 1857, in Mercer county, where he received his education. He married Miss Josephine Walker of New Boston in Aledo in 1883. He was a charter member of the Hamlet chapter of the Modern Woodmen of America, and a member of the Viola Methodist Church. His wife died four years ago, at which time he retired from farming and came to Rock Island to make his home. Surviving are three sons, Frank, Fred and Ira Welch, all of Rock Island; two daughters, Mrs. William Blaine of Viola and Mrs. Louis Smith of Rock Island, and two grandchildren ... of Rock Island. The body was removed to the Knox mortuary, Rock Island, pending funeral arrangements. |
