home   Copies of the certificates may be obtained from the local registry office of the district where the registration took place. Occasionally they may do it straight away. The General Register Office (GRO) index reference, ie details of the Year, Quarter Ending, Last Name, Forenames and District are needed. It also helps to know the church, religion etc.

Over The Internet

The General Register Office now has a secure site for on-line ordering for UK residents placing orders quoting either the General Register Office (GRO) index reference or with an exact date in the twentieth century

There is also this private company that allows online ordering from around the world. The reasonable price includes checking the GRO for accuracy and post and packing.
