Members of the Ballickmoyler band which
flourished during the 1930's and early 1940's when it's
membership hit a peak of 47. This picture appeared in the
Nationalist Newspaper sometime in 1990's.

During the 1930's some of the members of this band were William Muldowney,
Arles. Markie Brennan,
Cooper Hill on Cornet & Trombone, Tin Whistle & Mouth Organ. Paddy Moran
Arles on Bass drum. Joe Brennan, Ballickmoyler on
Kettle drum, Owen Redmond on
Trombone, Paddy Redmond on
Baritone, Kennedy's of the Strand
on Clarinet, Mick McDonald
Ashfield, (big stooke) on Bass. Mr
Boyle from Carlow was the Band Master until he had a
mighty row with Fr Killian about how
'Daily
Daily Sing to Mary'
(which was a catholic hymn that was
sang in school) should be
arranged. It ended up with big Mick threatening to hit him and
kill him, in support of church and country, dreadful. Mr Boyle was consequently sacked
and replaced by Mr Rafter.
