The Wheeler and McDermott Families

Master Index - Surname Index - Charts
This site is dedicated to the memory of my grandparents:
Rita Emma WHEELER McDermott and Glenn McDERMOTT
Hear this, O elders, give ear, all inhabitants of the land!
Has such a thing happened in your days, or in the days of your ancestors?
Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and
their children another generation.Joel 1:2-3
I first became interested in my ancestors during a trip to Gillespie, Macoupin County, IL in 1974 with my grandmother, Rita McDermott. Out of love, I was taking grandma to all the old cemeteries where her ancestors were buried. At each headstone she would tell me the story of that person. In all honesty, I was not paying attention. Than at the Wheeler-Huddleston Cemetery I was looking at Jehu Wheeler's stone and I became fascinated by the name Jehu. It was at this point I started writing down what grandma was saying.
I would like to give special thanks to the following people:
Littleton P. Bradley for making Macoupin County records available before the Internet,
Gloria Frazier for making Macoupin County records available after the Internet Macoupin County, IL,
Cynthia Leonard for her dedication to Macoupin County researchers and all her wonderful books,
Jill Secoy who has spent many an hour recording Macoupin County Cemeteries,
Helen Counsell, Donald Cordell, Floyd Lewis, Denzil Mauldin, Beverly Martin, Betty Jo Tilly, and All the researchers who have helped me over the years.
Thank you Shirley A. Aleguas & Betty
