Page 71 BEELER STATION CHRISTIAN CHURCH:
"The Beeler Station Christian Church was organized in 1826 by
James Foster and Alexander Campbell. It was the log home of Foster, located
about one mile west of the present site, that a dream became reality and the
church was organized.
The old church records were destroyed; but according to the
story repeated through the years, its doors have never been closed, and
services have been held through the years. From the days, when the worshipers
walked, rode horseback, drove buggies-even farm tractors have been used to
attend services.
The name Beeler Station was in memory of Fort Beeler, which was
located near the present church site. The commander of the fort was Col.
Beeler, hence the name. Almost everyone is familiar with the stories of the
famous Wetzel brothers, known far and wide for their cunning in outsmarting the
indians. The Wetzel brothers were familiar faces at Fort Beeler.
The present church building is approximately one hundred years
old and is the third home of the organization. Descendants of the founding
fathers attend the church now, one hundred and fifty years later!
Older than the state itself, the Beeler Station Christian
Church has stood as a pillar of strength in the community-and after all what
could be more important to any community? This little county church, and many
others like it have guided the leaders of our communities, our state, our
nation and our world. "I was glad when they said unto me, let us go into the
house of the Lord". Submitted by Jaunita Fitzsimmons."

Wilson (b. 1806) in Galouth, Ireland. She was seven years old when she came to
the United States, landing at Baltimore, Maryland - after eight weeks crossing

Page 241: S.C. STEWART FAMILY:
"The roots of the Stewart clan are deeply entrenched in the
hills of Marshall County. Our ancestors were among the first pioneer families
to establish residence here in the late 1700's. When first arriving in this
county from Scotland, Thomas Stewart, a lineal descendant of the House of
Duncan Stewart, father of Allen Brek (Lochiel) - Chief of the Highland Cameron
Clans, established himself in the Quaker Settlement of William Penn.
From there he joined the pioneer spirit of the day and moved
westward to an area near Ryerson Station, Pennslyvania. Thomas soon married
and they had a son Robert, who was my great-great-grandfather. He married Mary
Irwin and they moved to an area near Beeler Station, where they raised nine
children.
My great-grandfather, Samuel Stewart (3/7/1807-9/26/1892) was
born there. He was a man of great integrity and worth in his day. Few law
suits ever occured in his community, the contending parties generally agreed to
leave the decision to "Uncle Sammy".
He was married to Sarah Jane Wilson (7/3/1806-5/4/1896),
daughter of John Wilson, who emigrated from Northern Ireland and purchased land
on which Fort Beeler stood. She was a woman of rare accomplishments for her
day. She taught the first school in the county and was the first postmaster of
Beeler Station. They had nine children, the fifth of which was my grandfather,
Samuel McKinney Stewart (1/26/1838-1907).
S.M. mustered into the military on October 14, 1861 and
honorably served the Union during the Civil War. He married Martha Emmaline
Jefferson (5/23/1847-8/8/1930) on November 25, 1875. She was the daughter of
John and Rachel Jefferson and was one of tweleve children."
