MY FOSTER FAMILY RESEARCH
eMail Me

This is my wife’s biological family.  She was adopted having been put up for adoption at birth.  We had certain documents from her adoption and a few records from Santa Monica Hospital.

A few years ago my wife contracted Pseudo tumor Cebri and looking for medical information applied for information from the State of California.  Using all the information that I had available (as well as interviewing both of my wife’s adopted parents before they passed away), I started on an Internet search to see what I could find and see if I could locate her birth mother.  After about three weeks of looking I had information as to not only the deaths and burial of both of my wife’s grand parents but had tracked her birth Mother in New Mexico and in Louisiana.  I also came up with a Sister.  Not to mention addresses and phone numbers.

My wife made contact first with her biological Aunt (Nancy) and through her made contact with her Mother (Carol). At first things looked encouraging and many promises where made like the exchange of photographs.  Upon receipt of Carol receiving pictures of my wife and our family Carol was going to do two things send pictures of herself and her family and tell my wife who her father is.  Carol  was also going to contact my wife’s father and pass our information on to him and establish contact between the two.  Carol has done NOTHING that she has promised to do.

My wife does not want to be lovey dovey with Carol.  She doesn’t want money, she doesn’t want anything that she has except perhaps knowledge.  My wife does want to know about her biological family.  My wife does want to know about her biological mother.  If it is possible my wife would like to be friends with Carol.  As my wife has frequently said she has only one real Mother and Father and those are the Anderson’s that raised he and loved her so she is not wanting Carol to be some kind of a replacement parents.  But to perhaps be friends or even civil with each other would be a blessing.

In fairness (which I am desperately trying to be) Carol’s rejection or at best cold acceptance of my  wife might be placed on pressure that she may be getting from her present husband.  After all her husband (Patrick)  did not know anything about my wife or her brother until she made contact.  Patrick’s reaction was definitely cold and in fact I might add almost adversarial.

So with all of this said and done I have done this section to try and gain more information and even artifacts on my wife’s family.  I think there is a great deal of jealousy involved as I can trace my family back and the things that I know about where my family came from and what our place in history was and is.  I think that she would like that same feeling.  I know that we would like to pass this information on to our children.  They do have much of that information on my side of the family but they really know nothing about their Mother’s side.  I find this tragic and really a crime inflicted upon not only the adoptee but upon every generation that descends from them.

So here is the information that I have all my notes and all that good information.  I have removed the names of those I have corresponded with and have removed valid addresses and phone numbers. I really want to protect the privacy of those persons that are not directly involved.

Why am I posting this like this?  Well it is very simple I can not get any information from the known family members so I am opening up with everything that I know in hopes that I can make a connection out there some where.  My wife has come to the conclusion that she has been rejected and that  her birth mother Carol wants nothing to do with her.  I have no emotional investment in Carol.  My wife would like to know about her family heritage and it is my intention to find out about it and let her know and try to give her  not only so that she knows but she can also pass it on to our children.

Our blood connects both our past with our future... Our sense of who and what we are and how we fit into the entire scheme of life.  It influences who and what we are and who and what we will be.  It works on us behind the scenes to shape our lives, our health and what we pass on to future generations.

Thank You very much!  That gives me alot more to go on.

There was something that I found not only very interesting but also rather confusing as well.

The information that you just sent me says that "Lelan and Frances are buried at the Pacific Crest Cemetery in Hermosa, CA.  Services were handled by the McCormick Mortuary of Manhatten Beach, CA."  Your web site has a listing for Lelan A. Foster in Municipal Cemetery  Div. L  Blk4 Sp60.

Again thank you very much.  This gives men many more things to search for.

Bob

Bob you are right about that.  I'm sure that he is buried in Carlsbad, however, in his Will he said that he wished to be in California and named the Mortuary.  He also said that he wished to have two burial plots purchased at the California cemetery,  for himself and his wife, side by side.  That is why I gave you that information.  The fact that he named this location, being that it is in California, is important.  It shows a strong tie to that area and state.  There may be family still in that area.

I think you will find that the daughters they named in their Wills will be your wife's mother and aunt.  It looks like Nancy was married twice by the time he died and Carol was married to a "Chavez".

I know the attorney that handled the probate/Will.  I don't know how much he will be willing to share, but I'm sure that he will tell you everything that he is allowed to tell.  Be open and honest with him and he will most likely help a lot.  I'm sure you heard on the news about the Natural Gas Pipeline explosion.... Dick Blendon is representing the entire family that was killed.  I'm sure he will be very busy on that right now, but should be able to find time for you.

Good luck to you and your wife.
Xxxxxxx.

NOTE: Dick Blendon's Office was contacted but he refused to take the call and his Secretary claimed complete ignorance of the case.

Baby Boy Foster
November 10, 1961 Los Angeles County, California
Not sure if this is the right birth date.  It is the only Male born 18 Months prior to Lori and by what could be the same mother.  This is subject to change at any time.  Adopted last name may be Bradbury.

The Legend on this person is that he was adopted by a Doctor Bradbury who practiced in Santa Monica, CA.  He was a partner in a Medical Practice in Santa Monica.  One of his partners was the Doctor for Carol Lee Foster when she was pregnant and the baby boy was given to the Doctor for adoption.  I think the Doctor’s office was Bradbury, Dugie and Howe.  I am not really sure of the third Doctor’s name (Howe).

Eighteen months Later Carol found herself pregnant once again and returned to Santa Monica from her home in Carlsbad, NM and returned to the care of the same Medical Practice where she again put her daughter up for adoption.  Bradbury was considering adopting the sister of his adopted son if the Anderson family did not want to make the adoption.  Of Course the Anderson’s did make the adoption and Carol’s two children where separated.

Both siblings where born at Santa Monica Hospital.  The 18 month difference in age is extracted from the birth/medical/adoption records held by the State of California.

NOTE:

The location, where a bouts and contact with this sibling is very much wanted and is very desirable.  If you are this sibling or know the where a bouts PLEASE contact me with all the information that you have in regard to making that contact!

Was at a party and was playing around thought it was a joke to put a gun to his head and the gun went off.

NOTE:

The Family rejects this and says that it was simply an accident and that the gun went off while he was handling it.  The information that I received was from a Police Officer that was on the scene.  I got the definet impression that he was playing Russian Roulett but can not say that is a fact.

Email Correspondence on this Family Line

Hello;

I have just recently found your site. I am impressed with its beginnings.

I am researching the Foster family in Eddy County. Specifically the Lelan Foster (b. Feb. 2, 1907 d. April 26, 1972) family of Carlsbad. I found some information on your site about this family that I had not found any place else. The problem is that it was just enough to wet my appetite for more information. I have tried contacting the Library and the newspaper there to see if I could get a copy of the obituary of Lelan Foster. They have not been very cooperative.

I am going to give you a little more information than I have been willing to let the world know in hopes that you would understand the importance of this search. I have not put this information out there for fear that any person that may have information on this family would simply disappear or just not come forward. I hope that you can respect that as well.

My wife was born July 23, 1963 in Santa Monica, California. Her mother was Carol Foster. My wife was adopted by another family at birth (the Anderson's). My wife had no real interest in searching for her birth parents until a few years ago. She got a disease called Pseudo Tumor Cerebri. It is also called Idiopathic Intercrainial Hypertension. I could go into a lot of detail about the disease but I really don't want to bore you nor take up the amount of space that it would require. Anyhow basically the pressure of the fluid in my wife's brain started to increase in pressure. This strangled her optic nerve and she went blind. She was put into the hospital and the pressure was reduced by medication and spinal taps to draw off fluid. Eventually she regained her eyesight. It took about three months for her to recover. The problem is that there is no cure for this disease she will always have it even though it may be in remission and she does not have to take medication.

When the entire thing happened we got as much information as we could from her adopted parents. She sent for her information in Sacramento. The information really did not give much medical history. From her adopted parents we got her birth mother's name as well as legal correspondence that gave her birth mother's name but the mail was sent to the address of her father (Lelan) in Carlsbad. Since then we have started looking for relatives not only for the genealogy reasons but also to see if we could find out more about her medical history. Our children only have half of their information. Also since Pseudo Tumor Cerebri is contracted by females of child bearing age we are concerned that perhaps our daughter may be hereditarily in danger of the same thing.

We know that Carol Foster has an older sister. We also know that Carol Foster had another child a son about 18 months prior to my wife's birth. She also put that son up for adoption. The information that we have on her birth Mother is from 1963-64 so many things have changed since then.

Do you have a volunteer in this area that can do some research on this family? Things like Lelan's obituary. Perhaps there is a marriage record for Carol (b. abt. 1945) or perhaps there is information on any siblings. Lelan's wife's name d.o.b. or any other information. You know all the information that fleshes out the information on a family. Right at this point my wife has no desire to contact her birth mother. She just wants the information. She would like to find her adopted brother and contact him. That is as far as she in interested in contact at this point. I can not guarantee that she will not want to make contact with her birth mother. I just know that right now there is no desire.

Is there anyone in your group that can help me in this research?

Your assistance would be appreciated.

Subject: Re: Hello can you or your group help?

Dear Bob,

Your story is truly a devastating one! I have no problems with trying to help you and your wife, although I cannot speak for my co-coordinator, Xxxxxxx. I will leave the decision to help out, entirely up to him. I will see what I can find here in Artesia, on my end, although he would probably be able to help more, since he is located in Carlsbad. However, I can tell you that we always try to help anyone that we can, and as much as we can. That is what we volunteered to do in the beginning. Our library here in Artesia, houses microfilming on back issues of newspapers for both Artesia and Carlsbad I believe, so I could start by looking for the obit for the date you have given me. Then we could go from there. I'm sorry to say, that I haven't gotten the marriage information submitted to the web yet, but, Xxxxxxx has provided those records, and I will be updating the site in a few days. Meanwhile, I will check the records here at my desk, to see if I can find anything. Please don't give up on us, as we aim to please, and usually, between the two of us, we can come up with something. Myself or Xxxxxxx will be in touch with you as soon as possible. I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for visiting our site, as we have all worked very hard in providing as much information to everyone as we possibly can. We have so many ongoing projects, that have just not been posted to the site yet, but I promise to get busy and try to get the site updated this weekend hopefully.

So, please check back often.

Hello, this is Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx in Carlsbad, NM. I received a copy of a mail that you sent and the response from Patti in Artesia, NM. I have researched my files that Patti referred to and found no record of a Lelan Foster marriage but I have found his Probate record. You can view this record reference at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nm/eddy.htm once there click on "court" and “probate03.txt” you can use your pull down menu under "edit" and "find" and type in the name "Foster, Lelan A" this search feature will take you right to the record index.

I can go to the County Clerk’s Office and view this Probate record for you if you like or you can contact the Clerk’s Officer directly yourself and order a copy of the record. You will find the mailing address and phone number on our web page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nmeddy/eddyfiles.html.  They will charge you .50 cents per page and send it to you. I have found that many of these Probate records have many pages in them and you may not want them all. What I can do is view it and recommend to you what pages you may want that contain useful. information. The Probate record will or should have information on living relatives and last known addresses at the time of filing. This is the information that is in that achieve file at the link above: Foster, Lelan A 081875 1975 004386 01 Probate.

I did not find a Carol Foster in the Probate records.
I will be waiting to hear from you.

Thank You. I did find the probate record last night when I was looking around your site. It would be very helpful to know what pages of the probate record would contain information. It also might be nice to know how many pages the entire record would be as well. It might be interesting to read the entire thing it might give some insights into what was going on even if there was nothing really talking of family etc.

I don't know what the laws are in New Mexico but here in California an estate does not have to go to probate unless the estate over $100,00 ( I think that is right) and there is no will. It would also go into probate if it was contested. So the first thing that went through my mind when I saw the probatre record was who was contesting the will and why.

I also found a listing for L.A.Foster in the Municipal Cemetery. This is where I got the exact date of death and a middle intial. Previously I only had an April 1972 date of death based on Social security records. It has also crossed my mind that since information seems to be so hard to find that maybe Lelan might be a nick name or that his legal name might have been something else. I guess the probate record would have to be under his legal name though.

At the time of my wifes birth Carol Foster was 18 years old so I am guessing that her year of birth is about 1945. 1 am certian that by now she has married so her name has changed. Since she was not married in 1963 a marriage date would have to be after that. The marriage records on your site only go to 1940 so they where not really of any help.

Lelan Foster's SS Number might have been issued in NY but I am not certain of that as yet. I am hoping that the obit will give a place of birth as well as maybe his spouse and the names of his children.

Also the court house might very well have a marriage record for Carol Foster. The newspaper might even have an a wedding announcement. Perhaps even a picture of the engaged couple. I don't have a date for any marriages though, nor do I have a married name.

I have checked the alumni board for the high schools in Carlsbad but have found nothing. I'll keep checking back on that.

Again thank you both for any assistance you can give me in filling in some of these blanks.

I don't know if you will ever need some things checked out here in Santa Maria but if you do please call on me and I will do what I can to get the information that you are looking for.

Subject: Sorry wrong e-mail address

I am sorry that it has taken me so long to reply. First message I spelled the e-mail address wrong. I am very confused and do not know what to say or do, Thank you for the pictures, I can certainly see the resemblance between us. I have not sent any pictures, my scanner is not working correctly and the pictures do not turn out. I am hoping to get a new one soon. I also will take some pictures when my son and his wife are here at Christmas and send to you. This will be the first Christmas since Ryan died that we have been at home for the holidays. You have a very nice looking family and I am happy for you. Again I am very sorry for the recent loss of your father.

I will write again during the holidays.
Carol

NOTE:

In 2001 My wife went in for back surgury and since we had not heard a word from Carol I wrote her an email message that was a bit harsh because I was angry that by all appearances she did not care and that her neglect to do the things that she had promised verbally and in emails hurt my wife deeply.  My wife did not expect a parade and marching band but she did expect that Carol would do what she had said she would do.  Carol was trusted and the trust had been demolished.  I also thought that I needed to let her know that her daughter was going in for back surgury because of a herniated disc..

I heard from her telling me that she did not like my comments and that I just do not understand.  I never let her know what the out come of the opperation was.
