LUSHBAUGH, Charles C. (1820) HUSBAND -- Charles C. Lushbaugh, ae 30-1850; died Tuesday, 25 Nov. 1879 in 59th year of age; ae 39-1860; 49-1870. Census, 4th Ward, Niles City, Berrien co., Mich.; b. Penn.; who according to family record of Grace Lushbough of South Bend, Ind., was the son of George "M" Loshbough (1792) and Anna Maria Carter (great grandparents of Grace). Charles! occupation in 1850 was blacksmith; well digger in 1860; cooper in 1870. Listed in the 1871 Berrien co. Directory and History (by Cowles) as resident of City of Niles, St. Joseph Avenue. Michigan death cert.: Charles Loshbough, b. Penn., died Tuesday 25 Nov. 1879 at the age of 59, Niles, Mich. From "The Niles Democrat" newspaper of Sat., 29 Nov. 1869: "Charley Loshbaugh, another of our well known and respected citizens died at his residence in this city on Tuesday
night after a short illness of lung fever, in the 59th year of his age. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal Church, of which he was a member, on Thursday last."

Note that John, ae 93 (b. 1777), is living with the Charles Loshbough family in 1870; John's wife having died before her husband. Charles C. Lushbaugh (Loushbough or Loshbaugh) md. a cousin, daughter. of John Loshbough (1777n9): WIFE -- Mary Jane Loshbough, ae 27-1850; ae 38-1860; ae 47-1870; ae 57-1880, b. Ohio ca 1823, dan. of John (1777) and Susanna Loshbough. Fed. Census 2 Aug. 1880, 4th Ward, Niles, Berrien co., Mich., p. 249, dwelling 63, family 66; Mary J. Loshbaugh, ae 57 keef~mg house, b. Ohio; both parents born Penn. In 1870, Mary's father, John Loshbough (1777) was living with the family; John's wife, Mary's mother, having died earlier. Charles and Mazy Jane have a cousin relationship. 
CHILDREN -- The first four children are not listed in 1860 Census. 
(1) Anna Maria Lushbaugh, ae 9-1850, b. Mich. ca 184 1. Called Maria in Grace Lushbaugh' s family record. 
(2) Mary Matilda Lushbaugh, ae 7-1850, b. Ind. Called Matilda in Grace Lushbaugh's fam. record. The 1860 Census, Berrien County, shows Matilda in Bertrand~ age 16 b. Mich. ca 1844; a "domestic" in the home of John C. Wood. Matilda md. at Niles, Mich. Thomas Shockley on 29 July 1862. Mar. Rec. Bk.C, p. 424, on 29 July 1862, Thomas Shockley, 21, of Cass co., Mich , to Matilda Loshbough, 18 of Berrien co., twp. of Niles; witnesses, James Claffey and John Pope; by James Hilton, Justice of the Peace. The witness John Pope, was father of Philander Pope who md. Angelina Lushbough, daughter. of George M. Loshbaugh and Anna Maria Carter. It appears Mrs. Matilda Shockley and Mary Matilda Lushbaugh are one and the same except for the difference in place of birth (which differences occur in Census reporting). 
(3) Isabell Lushbaugh (called Belle) age 5-1856, b. Ind. ca 1845.
(4) Ellen Lushbaugh, ae 3-1850, b. Ind. ca 1847; ae 21-1870 b. ca 1849 Ind.; domestic servant in Goo. W. Davis family, Niles 4th Ward, a dwelling next door to Charles and Mary Loushbaugh, her parents. In 1880 Census shows "Helen" ae 31-1880 ca 1849 her parents b. Penn. Note Mary Jane states in 1850-60-70 and 1880 that her birthplace is Ohio. Ellen Lushbough and her cousin, Albert Dennis Loshbaugh, were witnesses at the wedding of Albert's sister, Cornelia E. Loshbaugh, in Niles to Bernadotte Steinbeck on 8 Sept. 1864. The given names Ellen and Helen often interchanged in records; the given name is shown in 1880 "Helen" age 3 1, living with Mary Jane Lushbaugh. (11 have a photograph of Ellen Loshbough. On the back of the photo is written the following: "Chas. Loshbough's daughter. (Lame Chas. of Niles) - Mother of Ella Doyle who married Mr. Featherstone; they had a home on drive between South Bend and Mishawauke. M.Y. Aday -- from the note it would appear Ellen married a Mr. Doyle.). 
(5) Margaret J. Lushbaugh, ae 6-months in 1850; 12 in 1860, b. Ind. Grace Lushbaugh did not list Margaret in her family record, perhaps because she died young ? All other children of the above couple were listed by Grace. 
(6) Emeline Lushbaugh, born ca. 1851 (ae 17 in 1868 mar. rec.) ae 8-1860, b. Mich., called Etheora Emmaline in Grace's record. Md. James P. Doyle 
(7) Louisa Lushbaugh, ae 6-1860; 16-1870; b. Mich ca 1854. Louise in Grace's record. 
(8) Charles William Lushbaugh, ae 7-1870, b. Mich. 1863. Called "William" in Grace's record. Also see below in the 1880 Census living with Mary Jane Lushbaugh now a widow.  In 1880 the following are living in same dwelling with Mary Jane Loshbough now a widow: --- Helen Loshbaugh, ae 31 b.
