From Columbus., Nebraska "Telegram" PIONEERS, MARRIED HERE, CELEBRATE 30TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY PAWNEES INTERESTED WITNESSES OF CEREMONY 'Indians Peeked in windows as Parson Administered Vows to Mr. and Mrs. Loshbaugh DINNER AND RECEPTION TODAY The 50th anniversary of their wedding which took place in the little prairie town of Columbus on Nov. 11, 1875 with a band of Indians as unbidden guests at the ceremony is being celebrated here today by Mr. and Mrs. Perry Loshbaugh, well known pioneers of the community, at their home at 1968 Twenty-sixth avenue. The wedding - Mr. and Mrs. Loshbaugh recall the scene as vividly as if it were yesterday - was solemnized in the parlor of the old Clother House, one of the city's historic hostelries which was then conducted by George Clother, one of Nebraska's pioneer hotel men Rev. J. A. Hood, Presbyterian preacher, tied the knot. It was the historic day upon which the Pawnee Indiana who had been the white men's friends in their battles with the unfriendly tribes of red men in this mid-western country, were starting out on the journey that was to effect their transfer from their reservation at Genoa to the new reservation which Uncle Sam had created for them in Oklahoma. Many of the Indians were in Columbus at the hour of the wedding and while the solemn vows were being administered they crowded about the windows of the hotel parlor literally consumed with curiosity to see a white man's wedding. Mrs. George Scott, now of Franklin, Nebraska, was one of the guests at the wedding. Today, half a century later, Mr. and Mrs. Loshbaugh, still enjoying very good health, are observing the happy anniversary, surrounded by 30 of their relatives and a great many more of their friends. At noon today they entertained the 30 relatives at a family dinner at their home, Mrs. Loshbaugh herself doing much of the cooking and baking for the elaborate spread. "I know 12 o'clock isn't quite as fashionable an hour for such an event as I O'clock," Mrs. Loshbaugh explained, "but the grandchildren must be. back in school at one and they're going to be given first consideration. The family dinner over, Mr. and Mrs. Loshbaugh threw their home open to their neighbors and many other friends for an informal reception throughout the afternoon and evening hours from 2 to 9 and many of the city's early day residents gathered to enjoy reminiscences Of the years when Columbus was young. Among- the members Of the family in attendance were their son, George Loshbaugh, and his family and their daughter , Mrs. Fred Hollenbeck, and family of Columbus, and other daughter, Mrs. T. J. Knisley, and Mr. Knisley of Omaha. A son, Charles Finecy, of-Greeley, was unable to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Loshbaugh have 11 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Both Mr. and Mrs. Loshbaugh have resided in Columbus more than half a century. He came here from Niles, Mich., in 1870 and she came from Shanksville, Pa. in 1873. Mr. Loshbaugh is 76 and Mrs. Loshbaugh 78. During a the 55 years or his residence here Mr. Loshbaugh has been employed in a number of the leading mercantile establishments of the city; first the general merchandise store conducted by J. B. Deisman; and later the John F. Heltkemper Herman Oehlrich and Henry Ragatz grocery stores, and more recently Friedhof's store. Throughout the years Mrs. Loshbaugh has been a faithful attendant of the First Methodist church and taken an active interest in church work.
