Obituary of Henry Loshbaugh form the Niles Democrat published Saturday 18 August 1882. "Another of the pioneers of this county has gone to his final rest. He closed his earthly career on Wed. August 16, at his residence three miles south of this city. Mr. Loshbaugh was born in Union County, Penn. on the 13th day of March 1800. He came to Michigan and settled on the farm upon which he died in 1836, having purchased the land from the government, and has resided there since. He was a good citizen, strictly honest and honorable in all his life long dealings with his fellow men, and possessed the confidence and good will of who knew him or had any dealings with him. He leaves an aged widow and a family of grown children to mourn the loss of a kind husband and indulgent father. His many friends throughout the county will be sorry to learn of his death, not withstanding he had far outlived man's allotted time upon this earth. His earthly troubles are over and his spirit is happy in the land of the blessed."

Spelling of his surname changed from that of his father's to Loshbaugh
instead of Loshbough. There are varied spellings of the surname throughout
the decendants of Henry Lorshbach.
He helped his father and his grandfather in building the Convent in St. Joseph's Parish at Bertrand, Berrien Co. Mich. Albert and his wife resided in Bertrand when first married but travelled by covered wagon with other family members to homestead in kansas shortly after their second child was born in 1938.
Olive (Loshbaugh) Bersley, wrote the following: " Father (Albert Loshbaugh) homesteaded on a 160-acre farm in Smith County, Kansas, near Nebraska State line when the nearest trading post was Hastings, Nebraska, fourty miles distant." Their homestead near Reamsville, a small community in Smith County Kansa, north of Athol and Smith Center. While living there in the sodhouse which they built. Albert assisted Charles Schwarz in the construction of a Mill that saw searvice at Reamsville until it was moved in 1938 to its present location in 1993 in the City park at Smith Center, Kansas.
Before their daughter, Hattie, was born in 1890, the family moved a few miles north of Reamsville across the State line into Franklin County, Nebr. They eventually lived in the village of Riverton in Washington Township a few miles east of Franklin, the county seat. Albert and his father-in-law, Lorenzo Drake, each had one-forth interest in an old flour mill, Eagle Mills, near Riverton. Mr. Schwartz had one-half interest in this mill which later burned to the ground and was not restored. After the death of Albert's wife in 1899 and when his daughter, Zetta, married, Albert and the younger children still at home moved from Riverton to Stratton (then called Claremont), Colorado for a few years. He died at Stratton (Claremont) on June the 27th in 1904.
(Aunt Olive Berseley wrote - "Viola took their father's body home for burial"). His burial was at Riverton, Nebr., beside his wife and infant son William, In September 1992, a grandaughter (Mildred Aday) accompanied by her niece, Linda Deming, made a trip to Nebraska and where she arranged for a tombstone to be placed at the until that time unmarked grave of her grand parents and their infant son, Willie. Something she had wanted to do for years,
MYA WIFE-- Mary Ann Drake b. 31 Jan. 1853, Toledo, Lucas Co., Ohio. Dau of Lorenzo Drake and Olive Richardson. Died 15 March 1899 and was burried at Riverton, Franklin Co. Nebr.
OBITUARY from Riverton newspaper:
"Died at her home in this city on Wednesday evening, March 15 1899, Mrs. A.D. Loshbaugh of disease of the brain, caused by overwork and lack of required rest during the weeks when nearly the entire family were sick with the measles. The sympathies of the people of Riverton are extended to the bereaved family. The funeral services were held this afternoon at the Congregational Church conducted by Rev. Samuel Williams.
Concerning the departure of Albert and Mary Ann from Michigan to Kansas,
their daughter, Olive, wrote in 1938:
"There five men in our party, only two married (I think), anyways ours
was the only 'family'. We travelled by covered wagons all the way from
Michigan to Kansas; crossing the Mississippi on a ferry (no bridge). I
think they forded the Missouri River. It was in September. We all stayed
together until they built the sod houses. They built ours first. Inez was
five I was four when we started to school in a sod school house. My mother's
aunt, her uncle's wife Nettie Richardson (Mrs. Gershom Richardson) was
a teacher. She had one baby when she began. She taught two terms and had
a new baby between terms. We used Independent Series of books (I wish I
could find one) and began with the Primer but skipped the 3rd Reader. When
I was six we got a new school house, a frame one, and Aunt Nettie built
a frame house. Father sold the farm and bought an interest in a flour mill
when I was eleven years old and we moved to Nebraska in 1881; sixteen miles.
After a few years he planned selling out and moved to another little mill
(Egle Mills, two miles north of Riverton). The first mill burned down and
we never got any money from it. Grandma Loshbaugh (Anna Decker) died in
Michigan in 1891 and we got a little money from the estate and bought a
home in Riverton, Nebraska where we lived until Mother (Mary Ann Drake)
died in 1899 and the family was broken up. My sister Inez and I were married
then and had homes of our own."
Following is a copy of the last letter Aunt Olive wrote to me (Mildred
Y. Aday)
" Dubuque, Iowa, May 24, 1956.
"Dear Mildred--
I have tried to write to you several times. Maybe I won't get through
but I will try. I am very lame in my mind. I am not here at all. Hope someone
will write from there and tell me the news. I can't contact anybody. You
mite not hear from me again, tho someone else may write to you.
Good bye for now,
from
Aunt Olive."

I beleive this to be the same residence as the one listed as Arleta OR. The street names and numbers were changed in this area, in later years (1928-1934 ?), but this would be right in the Arleta OR. area, later Annexed to Portland OR. . I also beleve she was here earlier than listed. Maybe as early as 1903. Her husband and oldest son are listed in 1903. No listing for L-shb-ugh before that. In1905 Gus and 3 of the 4 living children are listed. I could be wrong about her year of arrival, because her youngest son Charles shows up the same year she does, 1907-1908.
In 1900's her res. was at 205 Florence St. Dowagiac, Mich. This info in data base is from 1910 census. Was she visiting someone? Or was this a different Mary A. /Loshbaugh/?
The couple had five children and the youngest was born in April 1891. Four children were living in 1900's; a child lost between 1876 and 1879 who we don't have a record of.

1728 His Father died.
1729 At the age of only 7 years he became godfather for Johann Conrad

Sept. 9, 1729 at a Nachkvmmling (descendant? family reunion?) of the
family of Johann Georg Hauck.

1746 attended his first Holy Communion..
1746 his stepfather Johann Wilhelm Bechthold. Died
Oct. 16, 1749 he is mentioned in the newspaper " Sowers Newspaper "
as resident in Goshenhoppen (gutter courts).
Feb. 4, 1757 he was a witness in the connection with the will of Jacob
Hauck (Oxforth Twp.).
Feb. 10, 1762 His wife Susannah Herb gave birth to an illegitimate
child of Georg Gabel .
If there is a Will it can not be found as we lose track of him in 1757. Perhaps he had an accident on the way back from a visit with his friend Jacob Hauck. Or he could have become part of a party and migrated south. On the other hand he could have come back home and tried finding a new home in the Shenandoah Valley. Another possibility is that he returned to Germany for some reason.

Thank You very much! That gives me alot more to go on.
There was something that I found not only very interesting but also rather confusing as well.
The information that you just sent me says that "Lelan and Frances are buried at the Pacific Crest Cemetery in Hermosa, CA. Services were handled by the McCormick Mortuary of Manhatten Beach, CA." Your web site has a listing for Lelan A. Foster in Municipal Cemetery Div. L Blk4 Sp60.
Again thank you very much. This gives men many more things to search for.
Bob
Bob you are right about that. I'm sure that he is buried in Carlsbad, however, in his Will he said that he wished to be in California and named the Mortuary. He also said that he wished to have two burial plots purchased at the California cemetery, for himself and his wife, side by side. That is why I gave you that information. The fact that he named this location, being that it is in California, is important. It shows a strong tie to that area and state. There may be family still in that area.
I think you will find that the daughters they named in their Wills will be your wife's mother and aunt. It looks like Nancy was married twice by the time he died and Carol was married to a "Chavez".
I know the attorney that handled the probate/Will. I don't know how
much he will be willing to share, but I'm sure that he will tell you everything
that he is allowed to tell. Be open and honest with him and he will most
likely help a lot. I'm sure you heard on the news about the Natural Gas
Pipeline explosion.... Dick Blendon is representing the entire family that
was killed. I'm sure he will be very busy on that right now, but should
be able to find time for you.
Good luck to you and your wife.
Richard.
