● Jean le Grand du Petit Bosc
was styled Seigneur of Vitenval. In 1638 he married Louise daughter of Daniel du Voisin by his wife Marie de Courcillon. They had (at least) four sons

1. Daniel le Grand du Petit Bosc, baptized at Fécamp in Normandy on 8th December 1641. Styled Seigneur de Maubuquet presumably following his marriage on 26th December 1682 at Criquetot to Anne Vinefroy de Lintot, daughter of Presgent de Vinefroy, Seigneur de Maubuquet, by his wife Anne daughter of Claude Miffant. In 1685 at the Revocation of the Edict of the Treaty of Nantes he left France, escaping to Holland in 1687 and settling at The Hague. Mordaunt (Lord Peterborough) induced him to join his regiment, but he subsequently transferred to La Meloniere's Foot Regiment, rising to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel before retiring in 1692. He then settled at Portarlington in Ireland, where he built Arlington House on King Street in 1697. He died in 1737.
2. Jean le Grand du Petit Bosc. He served as an officer in the Red Dragoons, Dutch Army, and in 1689 became a Major in La Meloniere's Foot regiment, and a Colonel the following year. His widow died in Dublin aged 82 on 12th October 1730.

3. Josias le Grand du Petit Bosc better known as Josias Legrand de Vimare, styled Sire de Vimare. Born in 1651, he served as an officer in the French Army until the time of the Revocation of the Edict of the treaty of Nantes in 1685. He joined La Meloniere's Foot regiment as a Major in 1689, becoming Lieutenant-Colonel in 1692. In 1702 he became a Colonel of Foot in the British Army, and a Brigadier in 1706. He later served as a Brigadier and Colonel in the Dutch Army. He died in 1724.
4. Gaspard le Grand, baptized at Fécamp on 28th July 1652.

Perhaps descended from one of these brothers was
Paul Bosc, born about 1724, who, on 2nd January 1760 at St.Mark's in Dublin married Mary Anne Charretier, perhaps a daughter of Peter Charretier of Dublin. She died on 13th August 1786 aged 45, and was buried two days later at St.Peter's in Dublin. Paul died on 19th November 1794 aged 70, and was buried two days later at St.Peter's in Dublin. They had a son

Jean Jacques Bosc, born about 1773. He died on 18th February 1782 aged 9 and was buried the following day at St.Peter's, Dublin.

and they may also have been parents of

PAUL BOSC, who was probably born in the mid to late 1760's, as he became an Army Cadet in 1783, and on 4th September 1783 became a Cornet, Ensign or Second Lieutenant. Paul Bosc married twice. He married his first wife, Elizabeth Bellew and widow of Captain Robert Scouler (d. 1789) at Fort St.George, Madras, on 26th December 1792. Elizabeth had a son, James Braithwaite Scouler (1784-1812) from her first marriage, and Paul and Elizabeth had two sons together,

1. Edward Bellew Bosc, born in October 1793. He became an army Cadet in 1810 and on 11th June 1812 was appointed Cornet, Ensign or Second Lieutenant. He died on 27th June 1815 at Gooty.
2. Henry Bosc, born in January 1795. Nothing more is known of him.

Elizabeth, who must have been born about 1768, died in 1795 and was buried at St.Marys 'New' Cemetery in Madras on 8th December 1795.

On 14th February 1797 at Fort St.George, Madras, Bosc married his second wife, ANNE daughter of JOHN WILKINSON, Master of Equities in the East Indies, by his wife ANNA CARLETON. Anne, who appears to have been born about 1779, may have died in 1846 at Sandford in Co.Dublin. She was of Huguenot descent via her paternal grandmother, MARGUERITE SUSANNE MARET de la RIVE. By 1799 Paul Bosc was a Captain in the 14th Regiment of Native Infantry, and in 1802 was Commanding Officer at Chingleput. On 16th October 1805 he was appointed a Major. However he died less than three years later, on 12th June 1808 at Vellore. His issue by his second wife was as follows

3. John Charles Bosc. Born in November 1797, he is recorded as sailing to India on 20th January 1816. He died in India on 12th December 1818, presumably unmarried.
4. William Bosc, born in April 1804. He died on 16th May 1823 at Bangalore of scarlet fever, probably unmarried.
1. Paulina Anna Bosc, born in May 1799 and baptized at Fort St.George, Madras, on 6th August 1799. Nothing more is known of her.
2. EMMA BOSC, born in September 1805. On 1st October 1822 she married (as his 2nd wife) RAMSAY SLADEN, subsequently Physician-General of the H.E.I.C. in Madras. Emma died on 24th August 1850 having had six surviving children.
3. Eliza Bosc, born in September 1806. Nothing more is known of her.
4. Emily Bosc, born in India on 19th August 1807. She died on 30th January 1884, and it is possible that she may have been wife of Robert Moore, a solicitor in Longford who appears to have died in 1849, leaving issue.
