John Teachman, b. ca 1813; m. 15 Jan. 1842, Anna Maria Potter, b. ca 1826; d. 28 Feb. 1899 in New York City. Their children are:

As with a number of the Teachmans, there is some descrepancy as to whether John was born in New Jersey or New York and no reference as to who his parents are has been located. In 1839, John Teachman was living in Harrington Twp., NJ.
On 3 Aug. 1844, John purchased three acres of land in Harrington Twp. from Peter and Cornelia Museles for $150. On 13 Sept. 1849, he purchased an adjacent one acre tract from Richard and Mary Cole for $50. And on 20 Sept. 1849, he sold the two tracts to John Ackerman for $300.
In 1850, John and his family are living in Washington Twp., Bergen Co., NJ. He is a laborer and his owned real estate is valued at $700. By 1860, things were not going so well. His two oldest children had died. Although still living in Bergen Co. (Harrington Township), he was working for Isaac Cole as a farm laborer with no real or personal estate. His wife, Anna, was working as a servant in Brooklyn. In 1865, he had moved back to Washington Township, Bergen Co., NJ. Fortunes changed somewhat by 1870. John, Anna and Samuel were living in Tappan, Rockland Co., NY. John and Samuel were working as masons.

This is the last record found, so far, for John. It is believed he died before 1895. His wife, Anna, is listed as "wid. John" in the Trow's New York City Directory, 1895-96. Anna died in February 1899 in New York City.
Samuel Teachman (John) married Francis Duryea in Bergen Co., NJ in 1873. Samuel is listed as being from Piermont, NY and Frances from Closter, NJ. She died after a short time and was buried in Hackensack. In 1878/79, he marrried Catherine Kelly. Their first child, Annabelle, was born in October of 1879. Four years later a set of twins was born. Tragedy befell the family when Samuel, who had gone to work for the railroad, was in an accident. He died at the Charity Hospital of Jersey City of a "concussion of the brain in consequence of a fall" from a railroad trestle while working in Jersey City. Within a few days, the twins died as well. All are buried in Pearl River Cemetery, Pearl River, NY.
Left widowed with a child to support, Katherine moved to New York City. At that time hospitals did not provide meals, so Katherine began "supplying delicacies and nutriment for the sick and feeble." Katherine and Anna moved several times including one address near the main branch of the New York Public Library while it was being built.
Annabelle met her husband, William Lincoln Hamill, on a train ride to the Poconos in 1900. They married and she moved out of New York City. The couple had a number of children. Kate Teachman went to live with one of the grandchildren in Geneseo, NY, in 1933 and it is there that she died.

A special thanks goes to Deborah Guida for her major contributions.
