William Jason Howard:
I well
remember going to Uncle Jason and Aunt Hattie's house for
family reunions. Uncle Jason would bar-b-que a pig all
night over open coals and make brunswick stew. He called
me "Cooter." He was the only one to call me by
that name. He told me that I was his "Cooter."
The first thing I wanted when reaching their house was to
go to the wood cooking stove and get an "Uncle Jason
tater" from the warming oven. That is what I called
baked sweet potatoes. I have wonderful memories of
spending time in the summer at the farm. The girls would
pick and shell beans and peas for dinner, while the boys
would work in the fields. I remember riding in the
tobacco sled and bumping over the ploughed rows, the
smell of the tobacco barn, swimming in the
"Hoopee" River. So many memories. I loved my
Uncle Jason and Aunt Hattie very much.
Jason and
Hattie eloped to get married. She was only 16 and Jason
was 19. Jason drove a horse and buggy to Hattie's house
in Dellwood while the rest of the family slept, and
pulled under a window. Hattie had her clothes tied in a
bundle which she threw into the back of the wagon. She
then climbed out of the window into the wagon.
Information
from a granddaughter, Deborah Williamson, Hattie's cousin
Otis Lamb told her that Hattie was so small when she was
born, they brought her home in a shoebox and that was
where she slept until she grew bigger.
According to
a sister-in-law of Hattie's, known as Teady, Jason pulled
under Hattie's window of the old house in Dellwood with a
horse and wagon. Hattie had her clothes tied in a bundle
and threw it in the back of the wagon. She then climbed
in and they eloped. Hattie was only 16 at the time and
Jason was19.

for Barbara Jean Howard:
Buck told his
children that when he went to pick Bobbie Jean up to go
get married, Jason Howard was sitting straddle a straight
chair in front of the fire place and refused to speak to
him. Bobbie Jean said that he did not want her to marry
Buck. This information is from their daughter, Deborah.

Leonard Schwartz August 04, 1950 in Belvedere, SC. He
was born May 09, 1918 in Beckley, WV, and died May 25,
1970 in Augusta, Ga.

Dora is
buried between John Hogan Murray, her 1st husband and
William Leonard Schwartz, her 2nd husband in West View
Cemetery, Augusta, GA. Her name on her tombstone is Dora
Murray Schwartz.
John Hogan
Murray died in 1946 leaving Dora widowed at age 28 with a
9 year old daughter to support. Dora only finished the
7th grade. At that time, free education went only through
the 7th grade. She was a loving, caring lady.
