| Biography* | | The following obituary is from The Hogansville Herald for Thursday, 7 Sep 1989: Mr. Norman Gray Mr. Norman P. Gray, 51, of the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County, died Monday, September 4, in the Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday afternoon, September 5, at the Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Lone Oak. The Reverend Dixie H. Cummings and Mr. Neal Tant officiated and interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Pete Johnson, Fred Willingham, R.E. Nelson, Dick Carson, Richard Lofton, George Summa, McKay Mayfield, and Mac Stephens. Mr. Gray was born April 30, 1938, in Breman, and was a graduate of West Georgia College in Carrollton. He had made his home in Lone Oak for the past five years and previously lived in Fayetteville for many years. He was a member of the Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the official board, was a member of the Men's Club, and taught the Young Adult Sunday School class. Mr. Gray served five years on the Fayette County Board of Education and was presently serving on the Meriwether County Board of Registrars. He was an employee of Delta Airlines with 29 years service. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nancy Grace Johnson Gray of Lone Oak; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Sykes of Hogansville; two sons, Warren Gray and John Gray, both of Newnan; his parents, the Reverend and Mrs. W.D. Gray of Mableton; one sister, Mrs. Hannah Haire of Charaw [Cheraw?], S.C; and two grandchildren, Kody Gray of Newnan and Phillip Sykes of Hogansville. The Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville was in charge of the arrangements. |

There will be a celebration in memory of Bill at Nemoe's Restaurant, 6025 Peachtree Parkway in Norcross, following the service. The date of interment at Allen-Lee Cemetery in Lone Oak can be verified with Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.
He was born April 21, 1945 in Troup County, son of the late G. Warren Johnson, Sr., and Florence (Culpepper) Johnson. Growing up in Hogansville, he was a member of the First Methodist Church, graduated from Hogansville High School and attended West Georgia College in Carrollton, prior to serving four years in the U. S. Navy. He was an independent building contractor in the metro Atlanta area and most recently supervised the building of offices for Metro Brokers/GMAC Real Estate.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Waters Johnson of Duluth; sisters, Nancy Gray and Rosalind Edmondson of Lone Oak; several nephews and nieces in Newnan, and close cousin, Eleanor C. Williangham of Lone Oak.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA 30096, Or Allen-Lee Cemetery Fund, 6878 Forrest Road, Grantville GA 30220.

| Biography* | | In May of 1775 James Carlile received a grant of 400 acres on Long Cane Creek in what is now Abbeville County, South Carolina. It is believed that he was the father of Lt. Francis Carlile and seventeen year old James Carlile who fought in the Battle of Cowpens in the Revolutionary War. The family came from Monaghan County in Ireland to America around 1767 or 1768. Lt. Francis Carlile married Margaret McGill, the younger James Carlile married Margaret Boles in 1783, and a sister, Martha Carlile, married William Boles in 1786 and later moved to Mississippi Territory. James and Margaret Boles Carlile lived near Lowndesville. He died in 1842 and she in the 1850's. Their eleven children included John, born 1784, who married Frances Tucker and is ancestor of the Carlisles who live in western Abbeville County today. Francis, born 1786, who married a Miss Grant; Ann, born 1789, a teacher who never married; James, Jr., born 1791, whose wife was named Elizabeth and who moved to Henry and Cobb Counties in Georgia; Agnes, born 1793, who married Michael Kennedy; Martha, born 1795, who married Johnson Newell; Rev. William Carlile, born 1797, a pioneer Presbyterian minister who married Margaret Saddler; Samuel Y. , born 1799, who married Prudence Ann Cosby; Margaret, born IWO, who married Howard B. Shackleford; Isaac, born 1805, who married Jane Foster Cosby; and Robert, born 1808, who married Margaret Cosby. The Newells, Shacklefords, Francis Carlile and Samuel Y. Carlile all moved in the 1830's to Merriweather County, Georgia. The latter two later moved to Randolph County, Alabama where Samuel Y. Carlile was a County Commissioner during the Civil War.
