The "BIBLE FAMILY RECORD OF FRANCIS G. & EGLINTINE CULPEPPER" listed Martha's birth: _________________________Martha A. E. Culpepper _________________________was Born Feb 29 - 1832
Martha's parents were noted in the 1830 census records of Talbot, Co., GA and this is where she is presumed to have been born. However, according to an article about Francis Gillespie Culpepper, in the 2 Feb 1898 Shiner Gazette he moved family to Albama in 1834 and this is where Martha would have spent her childhood. Again according to the Shiner Gazette article, Francis G. Culpepper moved his family to Lafayette Co., MS in 1846. Martha is noted in the 1850 census of Lafayette Co., MS living with her parents. Martha accompanied the Francis G. Culpepper family to Lavaca Co., TX and it is there that she married her first husband, William D. Guthrie in 1853. Martha was noted living with William Guthrie in 1860 Lavaca Co., TX census records.
After the death of her first husband, Martha married again. Martha's second marriage was recorded in the S. M. Guthrie, Sr. Family Bible: ____________This Certifies ___________That the Rite of ____________HOLY MATRIMONY ________was celebrated between S._M._Guthrie___________ of Sweet Home and Martha A. E. Guthrie of Sweet Home on _July 2nd 1861_______ at Sweet Home by _Rev. Covey__________
Martha Annie Elizabeth was noted with her second husband, Marion Guthrie, and children in 1870, 1880 and 1900 Lavaca Co., TX census records. Some time after the 1900 census, Martha and her husband apparently moved to Baylor Co., TX and they were noted living there in 1910 census records. Martha and S. M. Guthrie were listed as having been married 48 years and Martha was listed as having had seven children, all of whom were still living in 1910. Only six have been accounted for. Keith Guthrie wrote 1 Dec 1990: Her son, William F. Guthrie married Kate (Molly) Edgar and they left Goliad County due to boll worms (cotton and moved to Wichita County [TX]. Martha Ann followed them in her retiring years and is buried in Beaver Creek Cemetery near the farm that William F. worked.
Mrs. Travis (Jacqueline Lorenz) McClinton noted on a Shadrack Guthrie descendant list that "some of her grandchildren called her Domma Dussie."

Birth*28 Oct 1804 Orin was born at Kentucky on 28 Oct 1804.
Employment* Orin's occupation: Baptist minister.
He was the son of Shadrach Guthrie and Malinda Badley
Marriage*23 Jan 1829 He married Eliza Jane Davis at Hardeman Co., Tennessee, on 23 Jan 1829.
Death*9 Oct 1854 He died at Lavaca Co., Texas, on 9 Oct 1854.
Burial* His body was interred at Mount Olive Cemetery, Lavaca Co., Texas.1
Biography* Keith Guthrie wrote Feb 1991: Orin left a number of tracks in Kentucky and Tennessee. He was evidently born around 1804 in Kentucky. He was a land owner and evidently a rancher. On January 20, 1824 he took out a license to marry Nancy Boyd in Hardeman County, Tennessee. No further record exists of Nancy and it is thought that she might have died in childbirth. On January 23, 1829 Orin married Eliza Davis, the daughter of Daniel Davis (the Davis clan goes way back into American Revolution days) who was a land owner, rancher and raised blooded horses.... Somewhere along the line Orin became a practicing Primitive Baptist preacher. The only thing that we have been able to find about him from the time he got married until arriving in Texas in the mid to late 1840's was an entry in a Primitive Baptist church register. No date but by deductions it appears to be in the early 1840's. Family legends tell that when the Guthries, accompanied by several other families who they may have been traveling with for years, that Eliza rode a horse with one of the children on her lap all the way. Orin is listed as the minister on several Guthrie marriage licenses in 1848. (Orin is thought to have had at least four brothers. William E. is well documented.) Orin bought land first from Daniel Davis (part that was the headright of John Davis) and others until we had a modest acreage....
On p. 60 of On The Headwaters of the Lavaca and the Navidad Paul C. Boethel noted: Another Guthrie in the Sweet Home vivinity whose family history is mixed also with the Culpeppers was that of Orin Guthrie. Guthrie, a Primitive Baptist minister, and wife, Eliza Davis, were among the first colonists of DeWitt's settlement and it is said the wife rode horseback with a child in her lap most of the way from Kentucky. Their first house was on the Guadalupe, but the following the sacking of Gonzales in 1836, they settled on the Upper Lavaca. There they lived until the death of Guthrie. Besides a son, William D., four daughters survived him, all of whom married men prominent in the history of Sweet Home. Cynthia, who married John Thomas Jefferson Culpepper; Mary Ann, who married J. F. Culpepper; Jane, who married Westly F. Vick; Eliza Ann, who married William Vick. The widow Guthrie married John McKinney, the high sheriff of Lavaca County, in 1854.
Mrs. James L. (Vivian Hastings) Culpepper wrote in a 13 Apr 1978 letter: William Guthrie (born 1831) was the son of the Primitive Baptist pastor, Oren Guthrie and wife Eliza who came from Kentucky to DeWitt settlement, with some of the early colonists up near Gonzales on the Guadalupe River. Preacher Guthrie died in 1854, soon after he was chosen pastor of the Mt. Olive Church and is buried in the cemetery there.
Vivian recorded the following tombstone in the Mt. Olive Cemetery, Lavaca Co., TX: (Rev.) Oren Guthrie 28 Oct. 1804 9 Oct. 1854
The following record is from p. 52 of Lavaca Co., TX - Cemetery Records Vol. I by Sammy Tise: GUTHRIE, Rev. Orin_____28_Oct 1834 [corrected to 1804 in Vol. II]_____9 Oct 1854.
