And this is presumably where William and his older sister, Ida, met and married a Bishop brother and sister. William L. and Augusta (Bishop) Carlisle apparently remained in Alabama until after the birth of their third child, William, in 1902. After that they apparently moved to Bell Co., TX where the family was recorded in the 1910 census. According to Mrs. D. O. (Maxine Huggins) Hukkanen, William L. Carlisle "moved to Calif. in 1918 with his wife and family. Lived on the west side of Calif. Ave. between Whittier Blvd. and 2nd St. where the ranch house stood until a few years ago." |

There is some question about Clemma's name. In the 1900 census, the name appears as Clirna B. or possibly Clima B. In the 1910 census the name appears as Clerna B. or possibly Clemma B. W. E. Carlisle, Jr., a nephew, listed her as Leona. Mrs. D. O. (Maxine Huggins) Hukkanen, a niece, listed her as Clemma. The name was listed as "Clemma Carlisle" in the marriage record. Mrs. Hukkanen wrote in a letter received 23 Jul 1979 that Clemma's "death certificate states that she was born in Texas." However, Clemma's brother, J D, said that she was born in Alabama and the 1900 census of Bell Co., TX shows her as having been born in Alabama. Mrs. Hukkanen also wrote that Clemma "moved to Calif. with her husband in 1919.... She wrote left handed. Did everything else with right hand." Clemma and Tom had no children. |
