Had it not been for Ira, I probably would have given up looking for ancestors long ago. I began corresponding with her in 1967.... Ira was rich in information. In one letter she mentioned having her notes in a large box--she mentioned about having no one except one young niece [in Atlanta] to leave her records with--she mentioned a cousin, Edith, in Macon [with] whom she exchanged information.... In 1969 I typed some information for her--Bible Record for John W. and N. G. Culpepper.... At one time we were so confused over some ancestor she wrote, "When I get to the great beyond I can't wait to grab all those Culpeppers and say let's get this mess figured out." After Mrs. Deam's death, her daughter, Mrs. W. H.(Gay Deam) Davison, wrote that her mother "left no written records that she could find."

Was a successful Architect.

The Story of a Snake Bite!

One summer when Louise and I were visiting Aunt Lula and Sally Bet, Herbert
was there, too. The mail for Uncle Bud's (Elam) place was delivered at the old
home place, so Herbert and Louise decided to take the mail to them. They were
running up the hill. And just as they were passing the barn, Lou stepped on a snake
and was bitten on her instep. Herbert snatched off his belt, tied it around her leg, took
her on his back amd came running back to the house. Everyone was excitedly trying
to think what to do. Someone said if you would split a live chicken and hold it
over the bite, it would draw the poison out. All the chickens seemed to have
disappeared so Herbert ran to Uncle Bud's for one. Uncle B came with him with the
chicken (but very reluctantly). After Low described the snake it was not
poisonous . So the chicken was saved! And Uncle Bud was happy.2
