     James has been proven by DNA and genealogical research to be a descendant of Drury Culpepper of Henry Co., AL, who is a great- grandson of Joseph Culpepper and 3-great-grandson of Henry Culpepper of Lower Norfolk, VA. He was also known as Bud. James was born at Edgefield District, South Carolina, on 22 November 1822. He was the son of Andrew Culpepper of Henry Co., AL and Lettis Harris. James was probably a free white male, age 5 and under 10, in Andrew Culpepper of Henry Co., AL's household, on the 1830 Census at Edgefield District, South Carolina.1 James was probably a free white male, age 15 and under 20, in Andrew Culpepper of Henry Co., AL's household, on the 1840 Census on 1 June 1840 at Henry Co., Alabama.2 He married Delitha Ann Edwards at Henry Co., Alabama, on 21 December 1843 at age 21.3 A census listed James as head of household at Henry Co., Alabama, in 1855.4 During probate, James Henry Culpepper was identified as an heir of Andrew Culpepper of Henry Co., AL on 19 May 1857 at Henry Co., Alabama.5 Land was granted to James Henry Culpepper on 1 November 1858 at Henry Co., Alabama.6 James was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census at Lawrenceville, Henry Co., Alabama.7 He served in the War Between the States between 1862 and 1865

     Co. H 11th Fla. Inf. C.S.A.8 James was listed as the head of a family on the 1870 Census at Abbeville, Henry Co., Alabama.9 James was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census at Henry Co., Alabama.10 James was listed as a father-in-law in an unknown person 's household on the 1900 Census at Haleburg, Henry Co., Alabama.11 He died at Henry Co., Alabama, on 7 April 1903 at age 80. His body was interred circa 9 April 1903 at Culpepper Cemetery, Henry Co., Alabama.8
