     Otis was born at Pleasant Ridge, Macon Co., Georgia, on 24 August 1882. He was the son of Augustus LaFayette Culpepper and Elizabeth Jane Brooks.1 Otis was listed as a boarder on the 1900 Census at Ensley, Jefferson Co., Alabama.2 He married Mabel Killian at Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Alabama, on 5 June 1907 at age 24.3 Otis was listed as a son in Augustus LaFayette Culpepper's household on the 1910 Census at Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Alabama.1 Otis was listed as the head of a family on the 1920 Census at Gary, Lake Co., Indiana.4 Otis's occupation: steel heater at Gary, Lake Co., Indiana. He died at Gary, Lake Co., Indiana, on 23 July 1954 at age 71. His body was interred circa 25 July 1954 at Calumet Park Cemetery, Crown Point, Lake Co., Indiana. Mrs. John (Dorothy Culpepper) Wingfield preserved a 25 page typed manuscript "ONE FAMILY - CULPEPPER" written by her grandfather, Rev. George Bright Culpepper, who noted: The next year a fourth son was born to Fayette and Jennie Culpepper on Pleasant Ridge in Macon County, Georgia. This boy grew to manhood and in 1887 moved with his parents to Pratt City, Alabama, where he worked in the railroad shops. From there he went to Pittsburgh and for many years I have lost track of him entirely. His name is Otis O'Daniel Culpepper.
In the 1910 census, the occupation of Otis was listed as a crane operator for the steel mills. On the death certificate, his occupation is listed as a "heater" for U.S. Steel Corp. His usual residence is given as 1609 North 16th Street, Melrose Park, IL. He died of carcinoma of the liver which he had had for about 6 months and metastasis to lungs.
