Third Generation (Continued)
Family of Johannes Bernhardt “Bernhard” ADAM (4) & Anna Margareth DOERR
12. Johannes “John” ADAM. Born on 9 Jun 1751 in Lancaster Co., PA.3 Johannes “John” died on 8 Jul 1818; he was 67. Buried in Bernhard Adam Cemetery, West Reading, Berks Co., PA. Johannes “John” was baptized in Bergstrasse Lutheran Church, Lancaster Co., PA.
I have seen him listed as John Derr Adam and John Doerr Adam as well.

This date of birth given in “Pennsylvania Births, Lancaster County, 1723-1777”

There is a John Adam who fought in the American Revolution from Berks Co., PA He was listed as “4th class, Cap. Soder’s Co., Pa. Arch, 3rd ser, Vol. 6 p 307-284-312-313, Cap. Krick’s Co.” Unknown if this is the same person.

On a family tree prepared by Emily Adams Tait in the 1930s it lists Johannes Adam with 1751 as date of birth and 1818 as date of death. That was all the information I had prior to the PA research trip Jim and I took in October, 2001. I was not able to confirm this on two recent Bernhard Adam Cemetery records as many of the tombstones are not readable due to age. However, with the help of Mr. David Adams, an Adams family researcher, I was able to find a typed copy of “Tombstone inscriptions in Bernhard Adam Private Burial Ground” which was prepared ca 1924 when more stones were readable. The original of this list is in the Collection of The Pennsylvania Historical Society in Philadelphia as file number BE/26A.7 In this list, much to my delight, I found “Johonnes Adam, B. June 22, 1851, D. July 18, 1818. Aged 67 y. 16 days.” This information conformed perfectly to the data Emily had obtained 60 years earlier. There is another Johannes Adam born 1730 who is in the same cemetery...unknown who this is for sure, but is probably Johannes S. Adam, uncle of the present John Adam.
