The below provided by Roxie Stevens, granddaughter of Janet Awilda Shilling.
JANET AWILDA SHILLING STEVENS MINTER (daughter of Azle and Margaret Hart Shilling)
Born in or near Frederic, Monroe County, Iowa, on November 16th, 1915. I believe she was born at home as most (if not all) of her siblings. Died at Ridgewood Nursing Care Center in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa, some minutes before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 1st, 2005. (Buried on May 5th).
Married 1st, Scottie Samuel Stevens, who predeceased his wife on September 22, 1965, and by whom she had two children, my Aunt Joan (real name: Eva Joan Stevens Evans) and my dad Bob Stevens. Then she married 2ndly, James Minter, who also preceased her on January 13, 1992 (I believe I already provided you dates, etc of birth, bp, death, dp, burials of both Scottie and James). She is survived by her children, 6 grandchildren, two stepsons, 5 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several step-great-great-grandchildren, as well as by her three sisters, Clara "Odie" Kelsey, Flora Alcock, and Betty Williams, and one brother, Frank Shilling.
My Grandma Janet is buried next to her 1st husband, my grandfather Scottie Stevens, at Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa. She finally laid to rest next to him nearly 40 years after Scottie's accidental death. She was born in Monroe County and lived there most of her childhood and lived the rest of her (1st) marriage in Chillicothe, Wapello County, and then lived through most of her 2nd marriage in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, until her and James' move to Mahaska County Nursing Home in that city. They lived there until James' death in 1992. My parents then moved her to firstly Ottumwa Manor near Ottumwa Hospital and after around 1995, lived her last years at Ridgewood Nursing Care Center in Ottumwa. She was buried next to my grandfather Scottie at Ottumwa Cemetery because my grandfather's parents, baby brother, baby half-sister, Stevens grandparents and aunts and uncles, etc, were buried there.
The pallbearers at the funeral for my grandma were Jim Hendricks (her sister Wanda Alice Hendricks' son), Ryan Brisendine (her great-grandson), Steven Ades (Jacki Brisendine’s husband---a great-grandson-in-law), and 3 step-great-grandsons, Rodney, Michael and Kendall Minter. The pastor was Richard Kirkman, one of my dad's close friends, who as a teenager used to know Scottie and Janet Stevens while visiting my dad at their house and he did give a nice eulogy for Grandma Janet.
Other than her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her 4 brothers, Kenneth, Lawrence, Levi and Harold Shilling, and 3 sisters, Alice Hendricks (Wanda Alice Hendricks, that is), Geneva Inez Shilling, and Opal Passini. Cause of Grandma's death is several complications, but primary probably is epilepsy which she had for so many years.
Grandma Janet is buried under her 1st marriage name. The grave shows the last name of STEVENS with her first name and that of Grandpa Scottie. I do not think my parents will change Grandma's name to reflect her 2nd marriage because that stone was already there long before Grandma married James Minter.
On 13 Sep 1937 when Janet Awilda was 21, she first married Scottie Samuel STEVENS, son of William W. STEVENS (1885-1914) & Blanche Ann CAMPBELL (1889-1916), in Albia, Monroe Co., IA. Born on 5 Feb 1909 in Ottumwa, Wapello Co., Iowa. Scottie Samuel died in Ottumwa, Wapello Co., Iowa, on 22 Sep 1965; he was 56. Buried in Ottumwa Cemetery, Wapello Co., IA. Occupation: Worked for Burlington Railroad for 22 years.
Died of injuries when hit by a train
They had the following children:
In Nov 1970 when Janet Awilda was 54, she second married
James MINTER in Wapello Co., IA.

James Minter is buried next to his 1st wife and his parents at Cuba Cemetery in Monroe County, Iowa.3
Marion Levi SHILLING.
Born on 25 Jun 1917 in Dudley, Monroe Co., IA. Marion Levi died on 19 Aug 1985; he was 68. Buried in Pleasant Corners Cemetery, Monroe Co., IA.

Lawrence Eugene SHILLING.
Born on 15 Jul 1919 in Dudley, Monroe Co., IA. Lawrence Eugene died in Jefferson Co., IA, on 10 Sep 2004; he was 85. Buried in Hillsboro Cemetery, Jefferson Co., IA.3
Below provided by Roxie Stevens, grand niece of Lawrence Shilling.
LAWRENCE EUGENE SHILLING (son of Azle and Margaret Hart Shilling) (last lived in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa)
Born in or near Frederic, Monroe County, Iowa, on July 15th, 1919, in Dudley, Wapello County, Iowa. Died at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield of stroke and a lung tumor at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2004.
He married Beulah Eldora Barnett on October 17, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri.
Uncle Lawrence was employed as a moulder at Iowa Malleable Iron Co. for more than 35 years and as section laborer for Burlington Northern and Sante Fe Railroad for 12 years. He retired in 1983. His hobbies were metal-detecting, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife Beulah; 4 sisters, Clara "Odie" Kelsey, Janet Minter, Flora Alcock, and Betty Williams, and by a brother, Frank Shilling. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Hendricks, Geneva Shilling, and Opal Passini, and three brothers, Kenneth, Levi and Harold Shilling.
He was buried after graveside services at Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, Jefferson County, Iowa, on September 13, 2004. His sisters except my grandma attended his funeral and burial. I do not know if Uncle Frank, his brother, attended or not. Grandma could not be taken to the funeral or burial, although she wanted to. My parents went there. I am sure several relatives plus Aunt Beulah's relatives attended.
According to my father, he lived for a short time with Grandma Janet and Grandpa Scottie as well as Grandpa and Grandma Shilling (Azle and Margaret) in Hillsboro when my dad was a little boy. (My mother told me some time ago it was really Grandma Shilling (Margaret Hart Shilling) who practically raised my dad instead of Grandma Janet and Grandpa Scottie whenever my grandparents lived with her and Grandpa Shilling in their house for a temporary time between their moves from old house to a new one). I think Grandma Shilling really ruled her family with an iron fist. I guess she had to because she had 12 children to take care of!! Among the pallbearers at both of Grandpa and Grandma Shilling's respective funerals, my dad was one of them. My dad usually took my mom, sister and I to visit Grandpa and Grandma Shilling at their house near Frederic in Monroe County near Christmastime or Thanksgiving or to family reunions or just causal Shilling family gatherings throughout my childhood and early college years. When they moved into the nursing home in Oskaloosa, we tended to go and visit them at those times until they died.
(Note: my sister and I always called Azle and Margaret "Old Grandpa Shilling and Old Grandma Shilling" and called Cyrus and Ethel Price "Old Grandpa Price and Old Grandma Price." We had to because when we were born, we had two sets of great-grandparents as well as a full set of grandparents living. We called our paternal grandparents "Grandpa Scottie and Grandma Janet" and our maternal grandparents "Grandpe and Grammy" in an attempt to differenate them all. When my nephew and niece were born, they had a full set of grandparents, 6 great-grandparents, and three great-great-grandmothers, plus a stepgrandmother and a stepgrandfather, and a step great-grandfather. One great-great-grandfather (Azle Shilling) died just a year before they were born. Two of these great-great-grandmothers were on my side (Grandma Shilling and Grandma Price). Now they only have two grandfathers, one grandmother (who is my mother), one great-grandmother, two great-grandfathers, a step grandmother and a step grandfather left still living today. Just think---Grandma Shilling lived through three first years of my nephew and niece's lives and Grandma Price through the first 14 years of their lives.
