Born on 15 Mar 1789 in Schafferstown, Lebanon Co., PA. Johannes “John” died in Stark, OH, on 11 Dec 1871; he was 82. At the age of <1, Johannes “John” was baptized in Lebanon Co., PA, on 3 May 1789.
Catherine SHILLING.
Born on 15 Sep 1791 in Schafferstown, Lebanon Co., PA. At the age of <1, Catherine was baptized on 16 Oct 1791.1

John Jacob SHILLING.
Born on 31 Jan 1796 in Franklin Co., PA. John Jacob died in Shillington, Berks Co., PA, on 19 Mar 1845; he was 49. Buried in Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, Berks Co., PA. Occupation: drover and later a well-known horse breeder.
John Jacob SHILLING was born on 31 Jan 1796 in Franklin Co., PA. Charlie Fredrick Stamm has John Jacob's birth in Franklin Co., PA and Morton L. Montgonery has his birth in Chester Co., PA. He died on 19 Mar 1845 in Shillington, Berks Co., PA. He died at the Three Mile House, Shillington, Berks Co., PA. He was buried after 19 Mar 1845 in the Lutheran Church, Reading, Berks Co., PA.3,4 John Jacob was originally buried in the Lutheran Cemetery, Reading, PA. It is believed his grave was later moved to St. John's Cemetery or Sinking Springs Cemetery in Sinking Springs. The First United Church of Christ transcribed burials shows Sinking Springs as his burial location. Jacob Shilling was a native of Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He was a Drover. On one journey while driving cattle through Shillington from the west, he was so impressed with the people and activities around the Three-Mile-House, that upon delivery of the cattle he returned, and established him self there. He married the daughter of the innkeeper, Valentine Straub. Later he became the proprietor of the hotel which he renamed Shilling's Inn.
Jacob was noted for his horse breeding. In the June 1, 1830 "Chronicle of Times", he had placed and advertisement the services of a horse named Cincinatus. This horse was described as 16 hands high, iron gray and upon notice "ready to run against any horse in the state."

JOHN JACOB SHILLING (deceased) founded a family in Berks County now well known there. He was born in Chester County, Pa., and came to Berks County when a young man, settling at what is now Shillington. He owned considerable land there, built numerous dwellings, and for many years owned and conducted the "Three Mile House," where he lived with his family. He was a man of prominence in his day, and was of striking appearance, being erect, tall, and weighing over two hundred pounds. He was a member of the Reformed Church. He married Hannah Straub, whose father was Christian (?) Straub, and to them were born children as follows: Levi died unmarried when about seventy years of age; Hettie also died unmarried; Samuel, who laid out Shillington, and gave it its name, married Catharine Whiteman, and they had children-Franklin P. (deceased), Oscar J. (deceased), Mary M. W. and George Washington (twins), Howard M., Frederick E E., Emma L., Ida C. E. and Ella; Ephraim is mentioned below; Jacob, who was killed in the Civil war, married Mary Bechtel and had one child, who died young; Eliza married Isaac Miller, of Illinois, in which State both died; Isabella died unmarried; Louisa married a Forbs, of Minnesota.

On 13 Feb 1816 when John Jacob was 20, he married Hannah STRAUB, daughter of Valentine STRAUB (1749-1825) & Elizabeth REIHM (ca1750-ca1840), in First Reformed Church, Reading, Berks Co., PA. Born on 22 Apr 1793 in Cumru Twp., Berks Co., PA. Hannah died in Shillington, Berks Co., PA, on 29 Dec 1873; she was 80. Buried in Yocum’s Cemetery, Grill, PA. At the age of <1, Hannah was baptized in Aug 1793. Religion: baptized 11 Aug 1793 in First Reformed Church, Reading, PA.

Samuel married Eleanor FOSTER. Eleanor died in 1839 in Stark Co., OH.
