Mrs. Herman Bruening Sr., 77, died Tuesday evening at her home in Polar

after a lingering illness. ANTIGO DAILY JOURNAL - Antigo,

Wisconsin Wednesday, 27 November 1940_A resident of Polar for 52 years,

she was born Anna Wierschke in Germany and came to the United States

around the age of 15. Her marriage to Herman Bruening took place Sept. 23,

1884 in Wrightstown, Wisconsin. She was a member of the St. John's

Lutheran church at Polar. Surviving are her husband; ten children, William of

Polar, Emma, Mrs. Hans Gruenberg of Antigo, Otto of Milwaukee, Martha, Mrs.

Ernest Frisch of Antigo, Herman Jr., of Polar, Tillie, Mrs. Herman Hoppe of

Polar, Ella, Mrs. Ervin Utnehmer of Antigo, Edward at home, Alvin of Polar,

and Ernest of Peshtigo; 23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and

one brother, August Wierschke, Wrightstown. Two children preceded her in

death. Carl died in infancy, and Bertha, Mrs. John Hartman of Polar, passed

away three years ago. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2

o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church in Polar with the Rev. J. F. Eschbaugh

officiating, and burial will be in Polar cemetery. 

Bertha married Herman Carl Bruening  son of Wilhelm Bruening and Henrietta Schalow on 23 Sep 1884 in Wrightstown, Brown County, Wisconsin. Herman was born in Dec 1861 in Germany. He died in 1951 in Polar, Langlade County, Wisconsin.
