~ Two others wounded ~ | |
![]() Collett’s victims were his parents in law, Mr and Mrs William Helton; their son Howard, formerly of Cincinnati; Collett’s wife, Mrs Stella Collett and Mr and Mrs Julian Bordes. TWO OTHERS WOUNDED Mrs Collett’s sister, Mrs Jackson and a brother, Carl, were wounded, the latter not seriously. Funeral services for members of the Helton family are to be conducted Friday morning, with burial in a cemetery near Mt Vernon. Last rites for Mr and Mrs Bordes, were to be held today at the home. Collett’s funeral also was to be held Thursday at Harmons Lick, Kentucky. Authorities believe Collett had a double motive – that he sought revenge for a raid on his roadhouse, made several weeks ago by officers who included Bordes son, and that he had brooded over a quarrel which had alienated him from his wife’s family. HAD BEEN FUGITIVE Collett had been a fugitive since the raid, in which officers found stolen goods and illicit whisky. Collett killed Howard Helton and wounded his brother after inviting them on an auto ride. Subsequently he went to the Helton home and then to the Bordes house, several miles away. As posses surrounded a tourist camp near Brodhead, in which Collett took refuge after the slaying, he ended his life with a revolver. | |
