                                   John C. Mount Sr. Will

In the Name of God Amen,

I John C Mount Sr. of Oldham County & State of Kentucky, do make this my last will and testament revoking all other wills, bills of sale and other instruments that I have made here to fore ascertaining or concerning my said estate. In the first place my desire is that there be two hundred and twenty five acres of my land laid off so as to include the mansion house the spring where James Thompson formerly lived and a sufficeniency of timberland to support this house, furthermore my will is that beloved wife select a man servant and a maid servant out of all my servants from. From my horses two of the best three of the choice milk cows three of my young cattle's also as many of the of the household and kitchen furniture as she chooses to take. The two hundred and twenty five acres of land and all the above named property is my dear wife's dower as long as she lives. At her death this property is to be sold and the proceeds equally divided among my children, further more I wish my dear wife to select as many hogs and sheep as she wants. All the above named property is not to go in the appraisal but after my dear wife has made this selection the balance of my personal property is to be appraised and sold and the proceeds equally divided among all my children. My will and desire is that my daughter Dolly have the little servant Phebe Jane more than the rest of my children all my servants after my wife selects her two and Phebe Jane is allotted to my daughter Polly, are to be set up to the highest bidder among my children no other person having the liberty of bidding. All my lands except the two hundred and twenty five acres allotted to my wife, my children may equally divide among their selves or they may sell it and divide the proceeds equally themselves. My wish and desire is that the old servant Easter be not sold but she is to choose one of my children as a permanent home as long as she lives. I lastly declare that if any of my children should make an attempt to alter this my will or attempt any law suit that they shall forfeit their share and portion shall be sold and divided equally among the balance of my children. It is my desire that my sons James Mount and John Mount act as executors to this my last will. Signed sealed and acknowledged. this 26th November 1842

At a county bounty held for the bounty of Oldham on the 20th day of February 1843 a paper purporting to be the last will and testament of John Mount deceased, was produced in court and proved to be such by the oaths of Lawrence W Owens, Hercules Ellis. Subscribing witness there to and ordered to be recorded. Which is done accordingly.
