Mrs. Alice Yager Mount

  Mrs. Alice Yager Mount, 58 years old, wife of J. Wood Mount, of Prospect, died at 7:15 o’clock last Tuesday morning, after an illness of a year and a half. She had been confined to her bed for the past four weeks. Mrs. Mount was widely known throughout Oldham and Jefferson counties. She was a life long member of the Harrods Creek Baptist church. She was a sister of Mrs. R O Duncan, Mrs. A T Ladd, Mrs. Nannie Barnhill. Messrs. William, Curtis, Albert and Owen Yager, of LaGrange. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 10 o’clock this Thursday morning, and buriel will be in Cave Hill at 1:30 this afternoon. Besides her husband, who is president of the Prospect Bank, Mrs. Mount leaves three daughters, Mrs. N A Hardin, of St. Matthews: Misses Agnes and Alice Mount, and two sons, Smith and Bledsoe Mount. J. WOOD MOUNT

     OLDEST GOSHEN CITIZEN DIES AT NINETY ONE

  J. Wood Mount, monaginarian, died at his home near Prospect Monday after a long life of usefulness and influence in the Goshen community where he lived for almost three quarters of a century. He was born near Skylight, in the house now owned by Mr. Banks but moved to Goshen community in 1867 when his father bought the John Locke farm.

  He was the son of J C and Julia Ann Head Mount and was born February 17, 1850. At the time of his death he was the oldest resident of the community and the second oldest resident of Oldham Co. A citizen of the highest type, Mr Mount was actively engaged in farming for most of his life and was at one time president of the Band of Prospect. He was a lifelong friend of the late R W Reynolds.

  He married at the age of eighteen Miss Alice Yager at Eighteenmile Church, the ceremony being performed by the Rev A E Sherley, a famous Baptist minister of that day. Mrs. Mount died in January 1913

  Surviving are three daughters and two sons: Miss Agnes Mount of Prospect, Mrs. N A Hardin and Mrs. S H Atrerburn of Jefferson Co. Messrs J H and SS Mount of Prospect. Six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive.

  Funeral services were held Wensday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the residence with the Rev E L Veech, pastor of the Harrods Creek Baptist Church, in charge and were attended by a large group of friends and relatives. Internment was in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Pallbearers were Messrs Amos Wilhoyte, William Wilhoyte, Edward Wilhoyte, Hugh Wilhoyte, R L Duncan and S B Steele.

     JOHN J MOUNT DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS

  John James Mount, aged 89, passed away suddenly at his home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 7. He had been in splendid health until shortly before his death, which was caused by a heart attack.

  Mr Mount was the son of James and Amanda Mount and was born in “The Old Mount House” on Second Street near Main. He made his home in LaGrange for his whole life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church since boyhood.

  Mr Mount served the community for some years as Town Marshal and for a number of terms as Police Judge of the City of LaGrange.

  In January of 1878 he married Miss Ruth Morris, daughter of the celebrated Rob Morris. Poet Laureate of Masonry. To this union were born seven children four of whom survive: Misses Charlotte and Ella Mount of LaGrange: Mrs. Elisha Fitch of Louisville, Rob Morris Mount of LaGrange, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren.

  Services were held at the home Saturday at 3:30 p m in charge of Dr. Frank H Caldwell, president of the Presbyterian Theological Seminary Louisville, Dr. Angus N Gordon of the Bardstown Road Church Louisville, both former pastors of the LaGrange church. Internment was in the Valley of Rest. Pallbearers were Messrs J B Clark, W L Dawson, H R Kirk, C W Tucker, Ed Tucker and W P Trigg.

 

ROBERT MORRIS MOUNT

     ROBERT MORRIS MOUNT IS HEART ATTACK VICTIM

  Robert M. Mount, 70, died Wednesday evening at about 6:15 o’clock following a heart attack which he suffered at his home in LaGrange as his wife was reading to him after their evening meal.

  The son of the late John J and Ruth Morris Mount, he was born in LaGrange and was educated at old Funk Seminary. He was employed by the L & N Railroad for many years but was forced to retire because of failing eyesight. He was the grandson of the late Rob Morris, founder of the Order of the Eastern Star, for whom the local chapter and commander were named. He was prominent in Masonic circles and was past master of Fortitude Lodge, past high priest of LaGrange Chapter and past commander of Rob Morris Commander.

  Mr Mount at the time of his death was a member of the Oldham County Board of Education and was serving his third term in that office.

  He married Miss Bessie Berry, a schoolmate and daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Berry, LaGrange, on January 29, 1903. She died in December 1934. On September 18, 1939 he married Miss Susie Head, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Wood Head, who survives him.

  Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs P C Roberts of LaGrange and Mrs J Bennett Latimer of Louisville: six grandchildren, three sisters, Miss Charlotte Mount of LaGrange, Mrs. Elisha Fitch of Louisville and Miss Ella Mount of Louisville, grand secretary of the Order of Eastern Star in Kentucky. Another daughter Mrs. Alice Muir, died in May 1941, and another sister, Miss Maude Mount, died a number of years ago.

  Funeral arrangements had not been completed at The Era’s press hour Thursday but it was said that services would probably be held on Friday.

 

BESSIE WILLETT BERRY MOUNT

     MRS. ROB MOUNT PASSES AWAY DIES AT PEEWEE VALLEY SANITARIUM AFTER OPERATION

  Mrs. Bessie Willett Berry Mount 53 years of age, beloved wife of Rob Morris Mount, died Saturday December 23 at 5:30 am at the Peewee Valley Hospital following an operation for appendicitis. She had been doing very well at times but became much worse Friday morning sinking into unconsciousness.

  Mrs. Mount had spent her entire life in LaGrange. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Berry. She was married thirty one years ago last June.

  Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Misses Alice and Bessie Morris Mount of LaGrange, Mrs. Bennett Latimer of Louisville, one grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. C S Sheffeld of Los Angeles, Cal., and Mrs James Ingram of Brownsboro.

  Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in charge of the Rev. F M Stroker of Clintonville, KY., her former pastor, she having been for many years a member of the Christian Church. He was assisted by Rev. H D Prather, the present pastor. Flowers in great profusion were evident. Internment was in the Valley of Rest in LaGrange.

  Pall Bearers were Dr. J T Walsh, Messrs J W Trapp, H M Hancock, S N Clark, J N Gatewood, E H DeMoss of Louisville.
