Allen Eric Withers was born in Forbes, NSW on 26th May 1920 and died 30th September 1973 at Glen Waverley, Victoria. Dad was a toolmaker and had suffered two head injuries in his late teens and early 20's which left him quite deaf and an epileptic for the rest of his life. I remember he sang quite a lot when I was a child and the Withers' would have family parties and he would occassionally get up and sing with the rest of the family - his sister played the ukulele and his brothers played guitars hawaiian style.
My mother was born in Carlton and is still living.
My mother and father married in 1946 at Moreland, Victoria. I have one brother who is 15 years older than me.
My parents spent their early married life living in Frederick Street, Brunswick at a home owned by Allen's parents Barney and Doris. Mum and Dad then moved to Princes Street, Flemington where I was born. My elder brother was born in Violet Town and because of the baby boom congestion in schools in Melbourne, spent his first school year also at Violet Town.
When I was about three years of age my parents moved to Randall Court, Mount Waverley where we lived for a few years before moving to Glen Waverley where my mother still lives.
