My family includes members of the Dumas Family and members of the Felix Family, my Father's and Mother's relatives. In order to have a convenient way of referring to this diverse group of folks, I adopted a name that Alex Rendon used one Summer when a bunch of us got together to go camping up in Sequoia National Park. He referred to the get-together as the Warthog Jamboree and it kind of stuck. So this term is intended to mean members of the DUMAS/FELIX extended families. That includes all the relatives of John and Julia Dumas in what ever shape or form.
Since we are all so far flung across the U.S. and Mexico it is difficult to keep in touch and little by little we are losing track of each other. I have gotten more interested as my age reaches out toward infinity, that we don't lose family identity. My ongoing study of our genealogy makes me all the more aware of the great value in our ancestral history and of relating oneself to it. I feel that it will help maintain our family identity if we have an easy way to know about family happenings and with computers being so common these days why not use the internet.
What is the Warthog Net?
I came across this email method whereby all one has to do is send one message to one email address and it goes to all the members of the group automatically. Maybe some of you are familiar with the use of "mailing lists" on the internet. I established such a list for any of us to use. It's address is warthogs-L@rootsweb.com. I've taken the liberty to sign about 15 of us up as members of the list. Those were all the addresses that I had for the family members. I would like to get more addresses, so if you know of others please send them to me.
The type of thing I would expect to see on the list are items of news about your particular family or questions about someone in the family. "News" can be just about anything such as "Our cat had a new litter in the kitchen the other day". A real example from Palmdale would be that my sister Juli Lydum is living here now and teaching in a Palmdale elementary school. She is in the process of buying her own home and will soon be moving in. Any back and forth conversation is encouraged.
If there is something you want to say to someone on the list that you consider private, of course, address them privately.
So, let us know what you think about this. All you have to do is address your email to warthogs-L@rootsweb.com .
Love to all of you,
Uncle Warty John
