Lionel Percy Tate

(My Grand-uncle)

Percy was tragically killed 1 week before the end of the 1st World war. He had enlisted in February 1913 and survived so much, it seems bitter irony he should die so close to the end. He spent most of his service in the Northumberland Hussars. My mother remembers a family story that he came to visit his parents and tied his horse up by the lamppost.
During 1918 he became an officer and moved to the North Staffordshire regiment. A folder of papers relating to him (as an officer) is kept at the Public Records office at Kew in London, he is also mentioned in the War diary of the regiment.
