Born: 1801 Father: Anthony Hopton Mother: Esther Smith Married: 1. 1828, Leeds 2. ? Spouse: 1. Lydia ann Bentley 2. Sarah ? Died: 1868, buried Woodhouse St. Marks Children: None known Occupation: Dyer. Joseph went into business with 2 brothers Edwin Wood Peniston and James Peniston. The 2 families were obviously close, as Joseph and Edwin appear to have had a double wedding. Eliza Ann, the daughter of James Peniston was later to marry one of Joseph's nephews. There was another partner in the business Charles Rose. The business went bankrupt in 1837.
