A Memorial of an indenture dated 4th December 1869, made between:
John Parkinson Cowling of Leavenworth City, Kansas, United States of America, Farmer and Stone mason,
eldest son and heir at law of Mary Cowling, deceased, formerly the wife of William Cowling,
late of Bewerley in the parish of Ripon in the county of York, stone mason.
And which said Mary Cowling was before her marriage Mary Parkinson, spinster and the daughter of
David Parkinson of Bewerley aforementioned, and Elizabeth, his wife, of the one part.
And Joseph Holmes of Bewerley, stone mason of the other part.

Of and concerning all that messuage or dwelling house with apard garden and outbuildings thereunto adjoining and belonging
in the village of Bewerley in the parish of Ripon aforementioned
And on the East side of the Town Street thereof together with a free and uninterrupted right of way
and passage for the said Joseph Holmes, his heirs, knarts and assigns and any other persons authorised by him,
into and out of and over along all that way and passage on the North side of the said messuage or dwelling house
leading from the Town Street into the said village of Bewerley to the apard and outbuildings behind the said messuage
or dwelling house, in common with the owner for the time being of the messuage or dwelling house
situated on the other side of the said way of passage. (Phew !)

Also which said first mentioned messuage or dwelling house is now in the occupation of the said Joseph Holmes,
his under-tenant or assigns together with appurtenances.

And which said indenture as to the due execution thereof by the said John Parkinson Cowling is witnessed by
Samuel Sully of Leavenworth, Kansas aforementioned, butcher and George Weatherall of the same place, Grocer
and as to the execution ЕЕ by Joseph Holmes, witnesses: Ralph William Hesslop of the City of Ripon, solicitor
and Charles Rishworth of Pateley Bridge, in the county of York, Innkeeper.

David Lupton Cowling of 126, Woodhouse Street, Leeds in the county of York, Blacksmith,
of the second part.
And William Longster of Blazefield near Pateley Bridge in the third part.

Description of Lands:
All that plot, piece or parcel of land situate on High and Low Bishopside Moor in the parish of
Ripon in the county of York by admeasurement one rood and two perches or thereabouts andnumbered
151 on the award made on the enclosure of the said High and Low Bishopside Moor.
Which said piece of land is bounded on the South West bt Workhouse Road, on the South by the
Ripon and Pateley Bridge Road and on the East by the property belonging to Mr. John Dinsdale
and West by drawing to a point.
