* I am informed that
Robert's parents were John Reid and Mary Steel. He was indeed at
the Steel home in 1841 and there was a Mary Steel there too.
However, I do not think that Robert's parents were the John Reid
and Mary Steel that married in 1808 in the IGIs, and so far there
are no others listed.
1841: at Kirktown,
Fenwick, Ayrshire aged 5, at the home of Robert & Janet Steel
and family.
1851: at Gainhill,
Fenwick, Ayrshire aged 14, a general servant in employ of David
Dickie & family.
1861: at Fenwick, Ayrshire
aged 25, a cotton & wool HLW, with wife Jean aged 23, and dau
Jean aged 2.
1871: at Fenwick, Ayrshire
aged 35, a cotton harness weaver, with wife Jean aged 33, and
children Robert aged 9, Mary aged 7, Agnes aged 4, and John aged
2.
1881: at Waterslap,
Fenwick, Ayrshire aged 45, a woollen mill worker, with wife Jean
aged 43, and children John aged 12, Jean aged 9, and Jessie aged
6.
