The William Howie family lived in that part of
Mecklenburg Co., NC that later became Union County.
Will written 13 March 1818; Proved in May Term 1818.

In
the Name of God Amen
I William Howie of Mecklenburgh and State of North
Carolina Being at present In a weak and low Condition
of Body but a sound and disposing understanding Blessed
be God and calling to mind the mortality of the Body and
that it is appointed for all men once to die. Do make
and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the
manner and form as follows of all I Recommend my Soul to
God who give it and my body to the Earth to be buried
in a Christian Like and Decent manner at Discression
of my Executors here after mentioned and as touching
such worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to Bless me
with in this life I give and dispose of the same as follows,
first of all I, will that my just debts and Funeral
Expenses be paid and discharged as soon as convenient
after my discease, Imprimis I give and Bequeath unto
my well beloved wife Elizabeth too mares one bald Eagle
named Sal, one Bay named fly with her Saddle and
bridle and Riding Chair, three Cows and Calves from
her own Choice, Eight head of Sheep, Two sows and pigs,
four hogs fit for to make Meat of all the grain that
is now In hand with all my Fodder of Every kind with
Too feather beds and furniture the one third of my
Cubboard furniture the one third of my pottery with the
one half of my kitchen furniture one Large pine Tabel and
four Chairs one Large walnut Chest and one Small pine
Chist and one old Trunk Likewise as much Beacon as will
be necessary for the Support of the family Till fall with
a spinning wheel Reel and Cards also materials for
to make use of till fall, all therefore mentioned property
I give unto my beloved wife for her own use and behoof.
It is Likewise my will that my beloved Wife have the
East End of my plantation beginning on the Creek bank
on George Howey's Line and runs Down the Various Courses
of the Creek untill a Large white oak on the Bank of
the Creek at the foot of a ? bottom field Cleared By
Jas Ashton and Runs a south Direction unto a Crooked
Black Oak Jacob Ormand Corner from thence the Various
Courses run till the beginning to have and to hold
During Life. Likewise it is my will that my beloved wife
have the use of the Remainder of all my Lands
for the Term of Six years for the Schoolling and Raising
my family with utensials of Every kind for to Cultivate
the Land with.
Item It is Likewise my will that after my Decease if
my beloved Don't find it Convenient for herself and
family to Live on the plantation that she shall have
the power invested in her to expose the whole of the
Land to Sale, It is further my will that my beloved
wife Have six Hundred Dollars of the money arising
from the sale for to purchase Land for her support
During Life
Item and I do authorise any one of my sons who is
Twenty one years of age to make a sufficient Title
or Deed of Conveyance as if I myself were personally
present.
Item It is likewise my will that my son, John have the
property that he moved with him at the price value of
Too Hundred and thirty Dollars. It is Likewise my will
that my two oldest Daughters Ann and Margaret have
Each of them a Feather Bed and furniture Each of them
to have one third of my cupboard furniture Likewise it
is my will that Each of my Daughters Ann and Margaret
Each of them have a saddle and Trunk. Margaret has
Received hers Ann's to be purchased out of the estate.
It is my will that when my Daughters Ann and Margaret
has Received the property mentioned to them that Each
of them do Refund back to the Estate seventeen Dollars.
Item it is my will that my son Robert have my Bay
filly and a saddle at the value of Eighty Dollars.
Item it is my will that the too thirds of my property
not Disposed of be Left to my beloved wife at her own
Discression for the use of my family.
Item it is my will that after my discease the provision
that I have made in Regard of Land for the support
of my wife Return to the Estate at her Death to be
Disposed of as hereafter Directed.
Item it is Further my will that all the Remainder of
my personal Estate not heretofore mentioned Be Exposed
to publick sale as soon as Convenient after my Decease
and the money arrising from such sales together with my
outstanding Debts Be Equally Divided with my beloved
wife and family share and share alike.
Turn over
and Lastly I Do hereby Nominate and appoint my trusty
friend John Lawson and my son John Howie to be the
sole Executors of this my Last will and Testament
hereby Revoking all former wills by me heretofore made
Ratifying and Confirming this to be my Last will and
Testament In witness where of I have leave unto set
my hand and affixed my Seal this thirteenth day of March
one thousand Eighteen hundred and Eighteen, Signed Sealed
Published and Pronounced by the said William Howie
to be his last will and Testament In the presence of us
who at his Request have subscribed our names as witnesses.
