1883: Robert and his new
bride Mary sailed to Adelaide to set up home.
1886: by 1886 they had
their own little home, a cottage about in the middle, on the
northern side of Eastry Street, Norwood. Eastry Street runs off
The Parade towards Kent Town, and whilst it looks a bit run down
now, no doubt it was a pretty little street 100 years ago.
1887: Eastry Street runs
into Gray Street to where Robert E, and Mary Jane moved in 1887.
Their house was diagonally opposite the corner of Eastry Street
and Gray Street.
1888: In 1888 they moved
to Capper Street, which runs on the northern side of Prince
Alfred College. It runs from DeQuetteville Terrace to The Parade.
The Howie's house was five down on the southern side from where
Young Street once was; it is now part of Prince Alfred College.
During these years Robert E. was a draper's assistant, but I am
unable to find out for whom he worked. However there were drapers
in Hindley Street at that time, so it might have been for one of
them.
