HENKEL FAMILY GENEALOGY




DESCENDANTS OF:

JOHANN HEINRICH (HENRY) HENKEL
&
WILHELMINA (MINNIE) AMELIA HOF




     Johann Heinrich (Henry) Henkel, the son of Johann Jost Henkel, was born in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany in 1826. He married Wilhelmina Amelia Hof. Along with 8 children they immigrated to the United States in 1860. After a stay in Pennsylvania the family settled in Grant County, Wisconsin. They lived in several towns, namely Liberty, Boscobel, Ellenboro and Cassville. Henry worked as a grocer and then a hotel keeper until his death in 1886. Wilhelmina carried on the hotel keeping business until her death in 1910. Both of them died in Cassville and are buried in the Aupperle Cemetery at Ellenboro.

Eleven children were born to Henry and Wilhelmina, 7 sons and 4 daughters -
Henry, Jacob, Louis, John, Gustav, Edward, Otto, Elizabeth, Anna, Lena and Emma.

Louis and John changed the spelling of the surname to "Hinkel".


Some collateral family surnames include:
Carothers, Hageman, Jeide, Kern, Mac/McDonald, Menzemer, Menzmer, Roche and Shuman.
