Submitted by Doris Greaves

My mother Cora Cornelia Collins Crowe b 1896 Pittsburgh wrote about their trip to California. My father, Wm Lee Crowe, b 1891 was born on the Craft place, East Finley and grew up in Pleasant Grove. He
taught at Sawhill and #8 Schools after going to Indiana Normal then worked at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. He didn't know how to drive but bought a Model T and they took off! My mother was pregnant at
the time with my brother who was born in Pacific Grove, CA. My sister, Grace is 89 and lives in New Jersey. She has stories of my dad fixing this and that on the car.

My Grandmother Sarah Ann Sprowls Crowe and my Grandfather Wm Clinton Crowe are in the picture with my father, Wm Lee Crowe the day they left for California. I just threw that in...you don't have to
post it. I never knew either set of grandparents as I was born in California but I remember when my father was notified of his parents deaths in 1940. We didn't have a telephone so maybe it was by telegram.  -- Doris

The background was chosen specifically to emphasize the matriarchal role of women in "the life" of children and families, and the resilience of all the women of southwestern Pennsylvania.
